How challenging/different is expert mode? I need a game to play and am in a KH mood so I thought I'd try it.

I didn't find it to be that different from normal mode. The same bosses will give you trouble as before, so there's really not that much of a noticeable difference. Atleast, to me. Knowing Mother, she'll probably come in and completely disagree with me, and tell you it's the most impossible thing ever.
It's not that hard. You have a little less life when you start and I actually died once in the Introduction.

Too big.
I started a game in Expert a while ago, but I got side tracked and haven't gotten off Destiny Island yet. I noticed that Riku was a little tougher, and I wasn't able to take on the Tidus, Wakka, Selphie trio with as much ease as usual.

i havent really noticed a difference, but im only at wonderland...i think maybe the armor monster you fight at the beginning in traverse town had a little more life though...i think it was a little harder too
I only ever played in Expert Mode. Matter of pride.
I think that if you play through normal mode and get the feel of the game, then when you play expert mode the game will be harder because the enemies hit harder but easier at the same time because you already know what you are doing and how to best fight enemies. Although, even with that, I still died several times fighting some of the bosses before I got the cure spell, so it is quite a bit harder. Even Tidus, Selphie and Wakka are harder in expert mode.
Oh....of course not...**runs**Originally Posted by eternalshiva

Enemies do more damage and your DEF is lower than usual.
That's it! But, if you beat expert mode by choosing the sword first, then the shield... you get to see a funny scene at the end with your overall battle stats.
I think you get the battle stats in Expert Mode no matter what you choose. I got the funny picture and the stats by choosing the Staff and giving up the Shield.
Oh, I never choose anything other than sword then shield.
Ok good because that's what I did.Originally Posted by SeedRankLou

What's the funny extra scene you get when you beat the game on Expert mode? I'm thinking about replaying KH some day, but I'm not sure whether I'll take Normal or Expert. BTW, I could be the only one to do like this, but I usually take the Shield and give up the Sword. It actually gives you the best stats in the game.

Kind of incorrect. Strength, Defense and AP can all be altered by Up items. HP and number of Accessories are constant no matter what you choose. So that leaves MP and number of Items that are only alterable by the choose between Sword, Staff and Shield. So there are two possibilities here, one is to have max MP and the other is to have max Items. To have max MP, you must choose the Staff. But by doing this, you can only have 6 Items, even if you don't sacrifice the Shield. To have max Items you must choose the Shield, but you are limited to a max of 8 MP instead of 10 (without add ons). So in your case, having max Items, you can choose to take the Shield and sacrifice either the Staff or Sword and end up with the same thing. I choose to take the Staff, for several reasons. So in my case, max MP, I can take the Staff and sacrifice either the Sword or Shield and end up with the same thing.Originally Posted by Sephiroth1999AD
But, you don't play through the game at level 80, you play through the game as your progess from low to high levels. So I don't just consider what I might have at the end, but what I have along the whole path, when I choose what to take and sacrifice. I have before choosen to take the Sword, which is a good choose. You learn several fighting skills very early in the game, which helps in battle, and you gain strength more quickly. Should you choose the Shield (another good choice), you learn Second Chance at level 12, which can save you against many of the early bosses where your defense isn't that great and you don't have the Cure spell and Donald and Goofy don't really know what they're doing yet. Should you choose the Staff (a third good choice), you will have more MP which will make your magic stronger. You will also gain AP more quickly, and your Cure will be more healing than otherwise (because of more MP). And, I personally like having things like Treasure Magnet, MP Haste and a very early Critical Plus, but that's just me.
And (to stay on topic) that funny scene at the end isn't a scene it's just a picture with the whole case making a silly face, and then it shows your battles stats. It shows things like number of heartless killed, number of items used, number of time you cured an ally, number of times ally died, ect. ect.
the real difference in expert mode is that when u fight heartless they always come back again after u kill them once normally they come back at least 3 times
