Sephiroth's sword was actually used by some warriors in feudal Japan. It was used to get people off their horses so it is possible to weild a sword of that size. Other than that, the nodachi wasn't used for fighting. It's like the claymore sword. The claymore was used for only the main charge into enemy forces and perhaps another swing. Then the fighter used a lighter weapon.

But since FF7 isn't reality, the nodachi is an awesome weapon, and Sephiroth is a god, it has to be the best weapon.

i realised you werent actually on about a real fight skate.....but think about it, even fighting a monster that has to sit there and not run away.....it would be able to simply brush off a blow from a masamune let alone anysword that big because you would have to be able to fly and have super streatght like superman to use it with any effect. lances tookalot of streanghth to lift and hold and even then you could barely move them and had to hold them in position with a peice of armour.

there are very few blades in FF that if able to be made like a good quality sword could actually be used. now bear in mind anyone can pick up a sword and look like they can fight with it.....but when they actually do have to fight someone who knows what they are doing they look like a loon. anyone can kill with a sword...but you have to learn how to fight with one. i looked at all teh images i have of teh buster sword last night an as a weapon to be used in fights it isnt practicle or useable.

the gunblade.....once we figure out how to use energy bullets and channel them down a blade is useable because as a fantasy sword it is still within the realms of reality. the blade is actually flawed by being single edged, true this is the shape of katanas and lots of favoured japanese swords.....but they only fought each other and today you have to look at you could be fighting any other weapon. a single edge is a weakness in a fight no matter your style and technique but the gunblade is also long and heavy. this is thankfully aided by the hand and a half grip (means you can fit two hands on) by pivoting the gunblade where the pommel would be and holding it close to the hilt you would be able to use it as a heavyer sword. seifers gunblade is inpracticle tho because of the grip.

you have to be careful with weapons like baralies. the duel headed lightsabre is more dangerous to teh weilder than the opponant and if you think you can spin....think again. expose your back or sides for a second and a competant fighter will move in and slit you open.

Az, if your wanting to use THAT sephroths sword to simply take out cavalry then you could simply use a spear in the same way....and that would defeat the point of the weapon being a sword. im not doubting you....but then the japanese use many weapons which are simply hilerious but in no way as funny as some people teach you to use them today. certainly broadsword two handers were used by knights to cut down the foot soildgers around them and it gave you extra safety if you did come onto the gournd.....but sephroths sword was undinably stupidly long for anything other than fantasy. whats more if your taking a sword that long to do as you say it would have been very poor quality for swords because you wouldnt be able to keep using it in battle.

hey seph lol.....i won my first tournament with real swords at 7 against adults.....i fought with them long before that......your age doesnt matter, it's how responsible you are.

There's a good site about the weapon. I think you'd appriciate the site since you handle weapons. I think that's quite cool by the way. I'd like to train with swords, I know for a fact it's in my blood. Just need to find a place over here that teaches sword use close to New York City first.

i would be lieing if i said i didnt have a fondness for the broadsword, but it's also been a weapon with alot of faulse press....it isnt slow, nor a blunt hacking weapon. it's THE best sword you could bet your life on, and in swordfighting...thats teh bottom line. dont get me wrong from time to time i have a fondness for katana....but when ive fought with one i have to make up for it's many disadvantages over other wepons.

The purpose of Ôdachi

The purpose of Ôdachi can be categorized as follows:

a) As an offering to a Shrine or Gods. Some Ôdachi were dedicated with prayer to win a war, others were placed in Shrines as legendary swords from mythology.

b) As a weapon. From explanations in old texts, such as "Heike-monogatari, Taihei-ki" tell us that Ôdachi were used by soldiers during battles.

c) As a symbol for an army. Some Ôdachi are too long for practical use. They cannot be used in a battle but it is said that they could have been used as a symbol of an army, such as flags and spears. Further research is needed to confirm this idea.

d) As a trend during a certain period. Some swords were also used for ceremonies.

e) To show the swordsmith's skill.

whoooo last night i had a brill fight

we are actually in the NorthEast of england so i afraid no where near NY lol. but if you do fancy learning forms of swordfighting heres a good tip from someone whos done it for years......if it hurts then it's wrong. theres many people out there who talk crap and simply enjoy hurting each other and in reality they shouldnt be doing it or teaching it, so if anyone tells you it's supposed to hurt then walk out, they carnt teach you anything other than what not to do. second if it feels wrong, stupid...it probably is, ive seen some americans doing awefully silly stuff like countinusly braying each other over teh head with a foam laden sword. it's just commonsense that knights and samuria and celts wouldnt do that because they would be missing limbs. if i can help out in anyway just ask.

if people like dagger and knife fighting as well as hand to hand martial arts and sword fighting a good illustrated comic serise is DreamWaves Transformers/G.I.Joe. six issues long it takes both TF and Joe back to WW2 and snake eyes is really cool with knifes daggers and swords

Cool, thanks for the heads up on that. I may take up fencing. I'm sure there are places around here for that plus my ancestors were guards to a French king so I'm sure they were trained with that style of sword fighting. Would be nice to bring it back into family tradition.

if thats what you like then go for it. i find fencing a bit pretentioius and unrealistic....not in the sense of wanting to hurt people, but it's almost a lame vertion of swashbuckling. it's interesting because weve got two studants who used to fence and they have as much trouble learning to fight as those who come from martial arts. both types seem to think they will have an edge from fencing or martial arts in and actual fact it hampers them...strange eh

I liked the FFVII version of the Ultima Weapon. It was so neat, in fact, it wound up in the talons of the Ultima Weapon monster in FFVIII (trying to figure out how gives me a headache).

i swear on anything you want tasty.......no, no protection when i was seven. i was bron into historical reinactment, which in the eighties was about fighting in front of the public and for charities, todays it's about doing period crafts. so i learnt how to fight with real edged steel swords as soon a i could hold one. it meant my sword was no larger than a dagger lol, because i was little, but even with that dagger i could beat full adults. it wasnt that they let me either, i was teh only child in the group.....and out of all teh reinactment societys i was one of teh only ones to learn to fight rather than play. so everyone was proud of my abilitys and made it harder for me to learn because they put their all into it. infact those who wanted to wore mail shirts and other armour, but at that time i hated hoods and helmuts and didnt wear any protection. i didnt need to either...altho accidents happen, we trained everyone to go at full speed, commit to landing blows, but we tought you how to control yourself as well as the weapon...so you could pull the blow as you made contact and from full speed it would land softly. in fact the only sword wound i ever got was from someone wearing a cheese knife while we played football, i tackled him from behind, and it slipped into my tunic and into my stomach lol, i still have the scar. but mainly i have no injuries because i was good.

TODAY, now that im 22, and because the insureance or lack of it for adult education, we dont teach teh studants with steel swords (well not as far as the boss know), we use both wooden weapons (considerd in ancient japan and britain to be also dangerous) and out own made foam swords with a wooden core. we advise you bring a wooly hat and gloves and thats all the protection. we would have prefferd to simply use wooden training weapons, but people are honestly less responsible today than in teh past. i learnt on steel, but i wouldnt trust many of them to do so. infact it's better they start on foam padded swords because they have more respect for the weapons when they try wood and then steel......we went onto foam because runnning an adult ed class you always get a certain number of nutters who stay for two classes, take little notice and damage teh swords to breaking point and then disappear.

okay i went on a bit, but in answear to your question.....no i didnt. i trusted teh men and women in the group to be the good fighters, i was, we were responisble as a sword gives and forces you to be responsible.

NEVER WEAR A BOX (goes over your nads). for one they are for whimps. for two, people WILL aim for it if they know you have one
