I'd say the difference between seeing "wtf" and "f***" (with censors) is this:

"F***" is something that's censored. If it is already censored, at least partially, then its safe to assume it's innapropriate. With "wtf" and "stfu" you're assuming its innapropriate only because it can be. I'm assuming you'd argue that a person who types "f***" really and truley could mean "frig" behind those astricks, but I think you know that that's a little riduculous to say.

I'm not sure if I got my point across well, so I hope you understand my point...

Swearing is against the rules. It's a stupid cause to fight against. Swear words are often ignorant words and lead to sloppy thought on the persons part. Just don't swear and use other words in its place.

Either of those words is pretty bad, really. One of them has a few extra meanings that aren't so widely known.

Basically, I agree with the other mods. A very limited amount of profanity, not directed at other posters, may be allowed on occasion. However, we'll be fairly inclined to edit anything else, even if it's already "censored" by the one who posted it.

I get annoyed when people edit "ass" or "trout" out of my posts, especially since I rarely use them and when I do it's for good reason.

I do think that if staff are going to freely edit posts with swearing (or whatever else) then the forums should note when a staff member has edited the post.

I only edit the f-word out. "Ass" and "trout" I can tolerate in moderation.

I'm sorry, but there are no words in the English language that come close to meaning the same thing as a "metric ****ton." It's quite simply the largest quantity imaginable, and then some.

I just find it amusing that you disallow the actual swear word itself, but will allow acronyms and other such methods (such as a** or s***) in which most if not all people, will immediately understand what was implied. It's basically the same thing, everyone knows and will read f*** as what it was truly intended to be.

Lately, we've been editing or deleting 'censored' stuff, "****" and whatnot, as appropriate. Some people don't seem to like us doing that, but meh.

I don't see a problem with wtf. STFU should NEVER be used, not because of the singular words involved but more so because you shouldn't tell anyone here to shut up.

Damn and hell are fine as long as they aren't use in an offensive manner. The only words I personally edit out are words that are directly insulting someone. If someone calls someone around here a wanker, for example, I'm gonna edit it out. Of course, I may edit people's posts out of complete boredom and power abuse.

Then maybe I'll be more polite in my warning when I edit it out? Probably not though. =]

I swear like a hung-over British drill sergeant, and I like doing it. I still don't find EoFF's policy so dreadfully difficult to live with. I pretty much use the occasional "trout" when censoring it out would actually cause what I'm trying to say to lose something in translation, though. (i.e., the Oni Fenikkusu quote "People who think that they are hot trout, when they are actually just trout, are awesome")

Not that I care when staff edits even that kind of thing, either. It's usually pretty *arf*ing funny when they do. *Arf*, I started using *arf* to censor myself out after the first time Unne used it, just because I think it's funnier than *arf*.

EDIT: I still do heave a sigh of relief when I'm at a board that lets me swear as much as I want.

Swearing is only useful when you are trying to convey a certain message. Since these messages are never needed to be conveyed in this forum (unless something really made you angry and for some reason you have to ruin everybody's fun by posting your thoughts), swearing is not necessary.

I would like a swear filter which changes swear words into fun words. If you don't have that then whatever. I won't swear in threads unless I just absent-mindedly forget.

I don't mind swearing, but I understand if people do. I try not to, but I do let the occassional "damn" slip. I don't even believe that "hell" is a swear word.

    Doesn't really matter to me.
