Friends vs. Food
And so we come to the final round of The Greatest Something In The Universe. Both of these finalists have beaten strong competition on the road to the final, and here's a quick reminder of how they made it to the final:
Friends beat...
...Halo in the first round. Halo never really looked like it was going to get anywhere, with a measly three votes to the now finalist Friends' 23. Demolished, and deservedly so, too. Still can't believe people thought Halo was greater than friends. What's wrong with you three? >=O
...Cartoons in the second round, with 20-8 on the scoreboard, after Cartoons had managed an upset over The Number 6 in the first round. I think this is a direct result of the shoddy cartoons we have these days. TMNT and Transformers could kick Spongebob and the Rugrats any day of the weak. Cheapos.
...Monkeys, who just didn't hit the right keys in the third round, only managing 9 votes to our Friends, who managed 20. Misfit was distraught.
...Women in the octafinals. Women got a taste of their own medicine, having heavily punished Canadians in the previous round. Women were left with the second lowest score in the octafinals, losing to Friends by a massive 20 votes (28-8).
...Love in the quarterfinals, with what was arguably the matchup of the tournament to date - and Friends only managed to make the cut with a single vote, winning by 18 to 17. A huge win for Friends, and should they win, it could be argued that this was the real final of the tournament. King Bahamut must have been gutted by now - he'd voted for Halo, Cartoons, Monkeys, Women and Love.
...Freedom (the defeater of Breasts/Boobs) in the semifinals, with a strong eleven vote advantage of 25 to 14. With Love out in the previous round, people were predicting Freedom to make it right to the top. King Bahamut either gave in or was attempting to use his jinx against Friends, but either way, Friends won.
Food beat...
...The Internet in the first round, a huge matchup for an opening matchup, with two of the most loved things of EoFF'ers staking their claim to be The Greatest Something In The Universe. However, while a lot of people claimed it was hard, most of them were just too hungry, and Food won with a comfortable 15-9 lead.
...Microwaves in the second round. You know, it would have been a lot easier to come up with a somewhat witty (yet entirely predictable) statement for this matchup had Microwaves won, but they didn't - Microwaves would have few uses without food, or at least 29 people thought so. One of the biggest wins in the tournament (possibly the biggest), as only furry va- er, ffr_vegeta and Peeg went for the Nuker.
...Cheesecake in the third round, continuing from the last round by further proving that there's little point in going for something that wouldn't exist without the other. Seven people refused this logic that was used by the other 22.
...Excellent Happiness in the octafinals. Apparently we'd all rather sulk and eat some grub than laugh ourselves to death via starvation. Fair enough. Besides, Excellent Happiness just sounds so tacky. The votes finished at 26-13.
...Air in the quarterfinals (octafinals sounds so much cooler than quarterfinals). You can't do much with air, can you? Important, sure, but this isn't about importance, it's about greatness. Food was considered greater by 22 people, with only 11 preferring Air.
...Sleep (the defeater of Sex) in the semifinals. This explains midnight snacks - we'd rather be awake and eating than snoozing away, eh? People in this day and age seem to strive to get by with less and less sleep even though we say we want more, all the while eating more and more food even though we say we want le- ...ah, who am I kidding? Bring on the grub! 22-16 meant Food prevailed.
