    Default Swearing at EoFF

Since it is an issue that should be able to be addressed, I'd like to give anyone who wants to the opportunity to discuss swearing around here in a calm and respectful matter.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you chose to use swear words at EoFF, which are against the rules, I will personally edit your post and make it sound like you said something goofy. Its the risk you take, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't like the thought of using th vB swear filter. Why? Editing people's posts to say things like "poopies" and "smurfy bottoms" is more fun. That's the only reason, and its a damn good one. So suck my dingle happies.

    Discuss.

I agree and do the same thing. Even if the word is filtered I will go in and edit it if it is excessive. The filter not an excuse to type all the swears you want. I have a hard time hearing complaints about it because the 'just don't swear' solution is just so easy and simple.

It's such a simple thing to not swear. Just don't type the swear words. I don't see why certain members feel that swearing is so necessary. Or why they get mad when we edit them out of their posts. I mean, really. There are plenty of boards that swearing is allowed at, and people take advantage of it.

If you want swearing, we might as well go full out and allow flaming of other members. Throw in some porn while we're at it. That'll make this board really great.

I don't know that allowing swearing would have to lead to allowing flaming and porn. Thats like saying gay marriage must lead to polygamy and marrying animals, which is an argument I detest.

I just don't like swear words is all. Well, to an extent.

I didn't say that one would lead to another. Although flaming often contains healthy amounts of swearing.

Well I can understand if the "F" word is not welcomed as well as a few others, but will the occasional "Damn" or "Hell" get any "nono" points?

Why don't you just :skulling: put the skulls backs? There didn't seem to be any complaints then.

IF we're going to start censoring, why don't you censor "wtf" since that technically means "What the " or something...

    Also, STFU.

In general, I like swearing. I use it for effect, in frustration over things, you know. It just comes naturally. When I go someplace, though -- whether it's on the internet or in real life -- that doesn't condone swearing of any kind for whatever reason, it's not that hard for me to respect that rule and move on.

That's all it comes down to here. Just respect the rule and move on.

Yeah. I swear in real life. Quite a bit. But only with friends who I'm comfortable with. I wouldn't go into a crowded public place and start swearing loudly.

Think of this message board as a large, crowded public place. Sure, some people might be fine with swearing. Others aren't going to be. Respect the rule. Strider said it better than I ever could have.

Joel: "Damn" and "Hell" are fine as far as I'm concerned. I, personally, have no problem with ass or bitch as long as its not excessive. I dunno about other people though.

HOOTERS: 'Cause its more fun to edit the posts... D:

Prot: When I see "wtf" or "stfu" I hear "what the frig" or "shut the frig up."

    ...

Okay, not really but it sounded good. So are you saying that it should either be totally okay for people to say the "f word" or that we should not let people say "wtf" or "stfu"? Must we draw the line in one of those two places?

well, if they can't say the f-word, they shouldn't be allowed to say "WTF" and "STFU" because both use the f-word in context.

Yes, it's stupid, but who knew that this thing could be such a big deal. It's really not, but yeah. Unless the staff decides to be a little more relaxed on the "****" "" then it be ok to let wtf and stfu go. But seeing the staff basically wants the f-word to not be seen, then "WTF" and "STFU" should be censored. Not saying that I like the idea, but the concept of each has the f-word in context.

EDIT: Oh yeah, let me also add that staff should also follow their rules in the Staff Forum!!

We don't senseor the word 'f-word' so no need to sensor 'wtf'. wtf is used so much that I think it has its own meaning and is not much associated with swearing when used in moderation.

'stfu' on the other hand is annoying and insulting and I edit it when I see it. Telling a person to shut up is not tolerated here.

Hell and damn are ok, I use them too. It's gererally accepted that they are on the lower end of offensive words.
