I do agree that they are annoying, but, it is very awarding when you get a gold chocobo.

First off, I assume by that combination that the sexes are switched. Secondly, you can get both green and blue from either combination.

Well, then the game must just like me, because that's how I always do it, and once I've gotten one color, I only get the other when I switch on which one I talk to (the gender of the newborn still seems random...against me...).

I just recently did the breeding part (up to Blue/Green, anyway), and I found an easy way to do this. Breed the "good" and "great" to get one of the colors they could potentially give you (Blue or Green). Then, if you got Blue, breed that with the "good," but if you got Green, breed it witht he "great." I did that, and it worked just fine. Obviously, the genders have to opposite to breed them, so make sure they are (save before breeding, then quick reset (L1+L2+R1+R2+START+SELECT), if necessary, to get the gender you need).
