Thread: Rights

    Default Rights

Me and my friend was talking the other day about old school Final Fantasy's 1-4, and that it was made by nintendo (knew that), but then like after 6 for the SNES, Final Fantasy started coming on the PS, from Square, then later Square-Enix. So, I was jw, who had or has rights to the game? Both Square-Enix and Nintendo? or, what?

I'm pretty sure Square-Enix still retains the rights. After all, all Nintendo did was make it compatable to their console.
Boy am I an unfunny ass.

Game developers typically retain the rights to games.

FF1 is also copyright Square, just like the other FFs.

If Nintendo would have the rights to the first couple of final fantasy games that were first released on their systems, you would have never seen any of the PSX remakes like FFAnthology, FFOrigins, and FFChronicles all released on Sony's console.
