Thread: In regards to the latest announcement

  1. #1

Default In regards to the latest announcement

I think that post deletion by the thread makers should be enabled. The reason why I think so is because if a use makes a thread and it eventually gets to spammy or messed up then eventually a Knight or an admin will come by and close it as it is his/her duty. But I think that if the thread maker notices the thread is spammy or otherwised not fitting, therefore if the user thinks it's going bad then he'she can delete it and save the staff trouble.

This is at least what I think.

If the thread is deleted we don't have proof anything happened. Like it or not, we are the ones who decide whether a thread is too spammy or not.

I can't speak for the rest of the guys, but I don't mind closing threads.

If we wanted regular members to moderate themselves, we wouldn't have moderators. People were deleting way too many threads, often for no good reason.

I propose that after every announcement staff makes an 'Obligatory Announcement Complaint' thread, to save time.

what if you make a thread ang just completely screw it up and decide you wish you hadn't even posted it before anyone else sees it. Is there a way to make it so members can delete their own thread as long as noone else has posted in it yet? Can RM's delete their own thread?

    Think before you post something.

well ok, whatever. Sometimes it happens though. Maybe you make a thread and then realize another thread was already made on the same topic. Maybe you didn't see it before. We have a lot of threads and this can happen.

You can PM a knight or admin. I don't mind deleting a thread for a good reason, like the ones you've mentioned. The reason why deleting threads was disabled was because the bad reasons were greatly outweighing the good reasons.

Yeah, and when a thread is closed it pretty much leaves an ugly scar on the forums, if you think about it.

I'd rather have to PM staff if I mess up than have threads deleted when they dont go the thread starter's way. If it was possible to delete only if there werent any replies, that'd be nice. Otherwise, I prefer this.

It's uglier when threads are deleted, because Staff can see (and undelete) such threads, and they fit even less than closed threads with the layout scheme Same with individual posts too, come to think of it.

In case no one happened to read what I said: People were deleting threads for bad reasons. Like "All the replies to my thread are stupid. *deletes*". Or "I'm done with this thread, and clearly no one else at the MB deserves to see any thread I'm done with myself, so *deletes*", and I had to un-delete them myself. And it was annoying.

Closed threads show people that if you do something, your thread will be closed. As opposed to people doing the same things over and over again. I maintain the perhaps foolish belief that people learn.

[qq=TheAbominatrix] I propose that after every announcement staff makes an 'Obligatory Announcement Complaint' thread, to save time.[/qq]

But then people would make threads to complain about our policy of making threads in which to complain. And then my brain would implode.
