According to reliable sources, though, "tee-dus" is the correct pronunciation of his name; it's been that way since before the release of FFX. "Tide-us", I believe, was just more comfortable for Western readers because of its familiar sound and because it suggests a link to natural phenomena, kind of like Cloud and Squall.

They kind of change pronunciations from Japenese to English versions of names sometimes. The same can be said for Paine in FFX-2. Reliable sources tell me that her name is pronounced "Pine" in Japanese and "Pain" in the US. And I swear that I remember a US Square rep talking about FFX and calling Tidus "Tide-us." (that doesn't necessarily mean anything, I'm just saying)
