Thread: low carb diet.

  1. #1

    Default low carb diet.

edit: my bad its low carb diet! damniit, not card.

Man, its so stupid how people are so concerned on how many carbs there getting these days. Like I just saw this commerical and it was about this vitamin pill and it said, ''now with low carbs, plus the vitamins you need!''. An on fox news, there was this one segment/report on this wine, "this wine has 1 carb less the the other", and there all talking about if people can tell a difference. Like what the hell, its the same wine but the ''difference'' is 1 carb! WOW! 1 carb, is this actually news?

Its just that your body needs carbs, your muscles need carbs. With out carbs, your going to die.

I just think these dumb diets like atkins and low carb diets are dumb, people just go out and exercise for a change.

Plus, like a night before a game athletes would eat lots in carbs! Even in marathons, people would eat lots of carbs, so there muscles work right.

I don't know, as far as I know, carbohydrates are very easy to burn.

Undoubtely, the person to blame about this is...George Bush! Really, I mean it, because...he is the president of a country and eh...it dosen't matter, it's his fault. Let's bash him.

True, as I've realised that while low-carb diets work to the extent that you're burning off fat, it's still highly unhealthy. I mean, your food intake is largely dependent on meats, fats, and veggies. For most people, it's comprised of the first two.

There's a phase your body goes through which is known as 'Kitosis'. (Pardon the spelling, I'm not too swift with advanced medical terms.) It's where your body is in a state of shock due to the change in eating habits, shortly after starting to follow the diet. You'll feel as if you've been hit by a truck, and you feel like you just want to lay down and just rest all the time. It's actually a very deadly state to be in.

As for the long-term effects, you'll feel mentally sluggish. But you'll feel less tense and more calm.

Yeah. Speaking from first-hand experience, they suck.

Any '*put an essential part of a human's diet here* diet' thing is dumb. You wanna lose weight? Eat less, less sweets, less fat, and excercise. That's all there to it.

i agree totally. atkins and such are stupid. they are jsut for fat people who are to lazy to take charge of their lives so all they do is feel sorry for themselves. just go on a real F****ing diet. sorry if that is offensive to anybody, and i agree its a tad harshe but if people want to be thin they gotta do the frickin' work! goin on a diet that you know nothing about isnt gonna work, and in fact it will probably do more harm than good. i jsut wish peopel ahd a little more common sense at times..

I'm in agreement, though I don't have any first hand experience with the "diet" (because I KNOW what's good for my body, thank you very much), but then entire concept is insane. I've had people try to justify the diet to me by telling me how much weight they've lost within so many months, but these people can't even have a freaking sandwich!

As mean as I'm about to sound, if you believe a carb-free existence is going to make you healthier in the long run, it's time to re-take some basic high school physical education and nutrition courses.

As far as I'm concerned, it's the Atkins Cult. It's all just one big fad that makes people think that they can be healthy by eating anything they want, as long as they don't eat carbohydrates. In order to be healthy, you have to have a balanced diet that includes good portions of everything, and - most importantly - regular exercise.

Did you know Dr. Atkins died of a heart attack? Something to think about.

Exactly! Eat healthily and partake in exercise; there's not much more too it. I wish people would concentrate on the exercise part a lot more than on trying to lose weight by diets. It's got to be a lifestyle change rather than a quick fad to lose a few pounds.

That's the thing - nobody wants to do any actual work to get what they want, so they just fall back on some shaky fad diet to solve all their problems.

Low carb diets are a scam. It's not like it's something you can do to shave off a few pounds and go back to your normal diet - if you want to take it off, and keep it off, you have to stick to it. It's advertised so that people think it's a miracle diet, and without even looking into it, they just start eating hamburgers without bread. It's ridiculous.

Like people in this thread already stated, the best way is to just cut back. Counting calories is a good way. I know there's a formula for finding out how many calories you require per day, though I don't remember what it is off the top of my head. That's a lot better than killing yourself on a "miracle diet."

The "low carb" and "no protein" diets are the two sillies ideas I've come across. Sure, in proper circumstances and following strict medical advice, they might be appropriate. However, for the layperson just to latch onto something because it's the latest fad... that seems a little ludicrous. And dangerous.

I agree completely with Burtsplurt and DocFrance.
On the one hand, "being healthy" is very simple - eat less, have a more balanced diet, exercise more than a little. But that requires effort and commitment, not a tolerable solution in today's quick-fix world. People want benefits without expenditure or detriment. "Reality" is something they feel can be shaped by their credit cards. Anything can exist the way you want, if you pay for it. However, our bodies don't follow market forces. Obesity, heart disease, diabetes will continue their epidemic rise until people realise that they have to take responsibility, and take positive steps to look after themselves, as no amount of money is a substitute for real work.

Until that happens, though, people will keep deluding themselves into continuing the same gluttonous and slovenly life, but without a few particular ingredients. Protein, carbohydrates, something you won't notice... fat and sugar, though, simply taste too good to do without. Hence the marvellous new bunless burgers from Burger King. Someone heard that having no carbohydrates was good for you, so they chuck out the only wholesome part of the burger, leaving behind all the fat and grease. They then pretend it's "healthy"...

I love this world so much.

Something that blows my mind is that people don't seem to understand that if you put on muscle, you'll be gaining weight since muscle is the heaviest thing you can add to your body. Many people, after working out, seem to think they've suddenly become overweight and diet, which weakens the body and makes the muscles almost obsolete.

As others have said, it's all the crazes of modern society that have contributed to the wide variety of diets. Anyone and their mother can make money if you claim to know how to lose weight by eating the way they choose. Thing is, every person is different and what works for one might not work another or for anyone else for that matter. What it all boils down to, is that you eat only as much as you need to feel healthy, not less so that you feel lighter, or not more because it's something to do.

Obviously, the other component is exercise. I don't care who you are, without exercise, and not just once in a blue moon, but actual regular exercise, no diet will help you get skinny AND healthy.

    Take care all.

If you diet you don't really burn fat you burn muscle first since it has more things in it your body needs. In order to lose weight you HAVE to exercise like everyone else has said.
