    Doomsday

AKA Judgement Day, the Apocolypse, The End Of The World, the Last Days, etc...

Will it be within 5-10 years, 50-100 years, 1000-2000 years, when will this dreaded day come? Will it even come at all?

With all the wars in Iraq, WWII, WWI, Falkland war and the Cold War, it's hard not to think of the enivitable. The past 100 years has been one heck of a violent time, is the end near?

According to the Bible, it states in Revalation that a "Great Tribulation" will arise and there will be food shortages, reports of wars, false prophets, etc... The interesting part is next. It states that "immediatly after these things, the sky will be darkenend and the sun will cease to give its light" and "The stars will fall from the heavens"(or something around those lines *find it in EDIT: Matthew if you're bothered*). Is this a warning of an impeding asteroid collision? The stars will fall from the heavens relates to an asteroid falling from the sky. It would chuck up lots of dust blocking out the sun and moon for months. It would kill plants and would spell death for most of the 3rd world. Is this what the end of the world will be?

Seems we have our own little doomsayer here. :P

Anyway, its possible. Of course there is nothing that isn't. The probability of it happening is incredibly low though. Stuff like this has been happening for years. As a matter of fact, nearly all of it has happened since the beginning of recorded history. Meaningless fights between groups of people, food shortages, etc. Its all happened before, it will happen again sadly. I'm starting to believe what Marx said about history being cyclical.

I doubt it. The bible, or any other holy book/ prophet/ cultural group can't predict what future events will be.
A comet collision would be a convinient end for most of these groups, because it shows an awesome and unstoppable power from above that can destroy the world in a second.
The tribualtion, following from the rapture, is, according to www.raptureready.com, when the antichrist will come to power and rule over the world. I am not religious and I actually find pretty much all of this stuff as complete bs, but from what it seems nothing will be falling from the skys according to the fundamentalists.

Also, such a collosion would not only affect the 3rd World. The 1st World would be just as affected. We would just survive slightly longer.

As for the end of the world? In about 4bn years, when the sun expands and consumes the Earth.

if u read revelation it also states we will be slaughtered by a special forces unit of angels (17 in total) and that would kick ass so much. far more interesting then being consumed in a nuclear holocaust, by a meteorite or the sun.

doh, but i,m a atheist and dont believe in angels

i just realised that the ff seris will have to end one day * the sun is coming to consume us, so your last challenge is to buy and complete ff999999999999 before it arrives, ironically the last boss is the sun god...*

You really cant pull out a sentence from the book of revelations and say "oh apparently thats is going to happen" without really understanding what it means to the people who believe in christianity.
Maybe if you really want to find out about judgement day and the great tribulation and the rapture it might be better to go talk to a pastor or church leader. Yea alot of bad things are going to happen in the tribulation and there is going to be a judgement day no one can say when exactly its going to be...

Aeris I would re read what you read because I assure that angels do not slaughter people, that would totally go against who they are, they would have no reason to and god doesnt just send out his angels to go and slaughter!

Its hard to understand, I dont fully understand everything myself, but dont make a mockery of our faith...

Not being a religious fellow myself, I usually don't put much stock in any sort of prophecy when it comes from any sort of document revolving around a religion. If I recall correctly, it's a sin to have sex outside of marriage, and those who do will be banished to Hell. If that's so, it must be very lonely in Heaven.

Anyway, I think every single day we allow ourselves to be consumed with greed, prejudice and hatred, we are moving closer to doing something horrible. Whether or not this could lead to global destruction isn't known, but we certainly possess the capability to destroy A LOT of life at a very rapid rate. I don't think the world will end in my lifetime, nor in the near future, but, it COULD occur by our own means, and that frankly is disturbing.

    Take care all.

I don't see the world "ending" any time soon. Even if something strange happened and wiped out all of humanity, other forms of life would probably survive. Life has survived a few ice ages and something powerful enough that it destroyed the dinosaurs; things will probably survive anything human beings throw at the world.

So far as Revelation, I'll be sure to be on the lookout for those giant undead horse-demons and sea monsters.

    [q]false prophets[/q]

I'm not certain what this means, but I believe that people who randomly suggest it will be the end of the world can be labelled a false prophet. These people are never right, leading me to believe that the end of the world is coming (they are false prophets). Thus we come to a conundrum: if a false prophet is wrong in his claim, then how can false prophets signal the apocalypse -- they would be right.

Therefore it reasons that the apocalypse cannot happen thanks to earthly logic. Foiled again, God! xD

PG, by false prophets, I believe it should be interpreted as people who think that they are holy and inspired by God, when in reality, they're not.

Anyway, if you really would like to know, I personally think the end of the world is very near. Perhaps even within the next ten years. However, nobody is going to believe me on this claim, but I have my reasons.

If the world is going to end, let it. I'll just keep living my life until that day. The end of the world is supposed to be unstoppable, right? So, if it is inevitable, and if it is supposed to happen during my lifetime, then it will and there's absolutely nothing I can do about it. So why worry?

First of all, yep King Bahamut's exactly right on that, that's what false prophets mean. Second, I agree with Bahamut on the fact that there is extremly little (funny I'd say 10years aswell....) time left. I also have my reasons which I don't care to share at this point in time, but who knows....

I remember hearing that the ancient Mayans (or perhaps the Aztecs) used a calendar that accurately depicted many celestial events, like eclipses and comets. They also predicted that the apocalypse would occur some time in 2012.

    Just somethin' I heard.
