While Terra is the closest to a main character for FFVI, you don't actually need her in your party all the time. You can even finish the game without having her at all. Ever try beating the game with only Celes, Sabin, Edgar, and Setzer?

Yeah, you don't NEED her, but she still is considered the main character (at least by me...).
