The Porn Policy (Again)

I'm not satisfied with how the thread went, and I haven't gotten my message clearly across...

All that I'm asking for is a different way to resolve people posting 'porn' attachments. It's easy to make a simple mistake when you're attaching an image. As Peter noted, the picture he meant to attach was JUST below the image he posted, because of the numbers in the name of the file. He didn't catch it right away, and found out when it was too late.

SIMPLE MISTAKES LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not obvious posting a porn picture, like using a picture from online if someone had (btw, there's nothing in that link, I already checked)

People can make mistakes with Attachments, and I want to argue that the staff should give second thought to this "insta-ban" for 'porn' attachments. I don't care about the other forums of porn, like using HTML to link to "porn" pictures already online, you can still auto-ban people for those, but give those who made an attachment a warning because it may be a mistake. That's all I want from staff, to warn posters attaching "porn," unless it was obviously on purpose. *sigh* I know this'll get closed, so I'll just close it because I don't want to add more to the "staff flaming" which I clearly do not really want right now, and I want to add to my closed thread without having to abuse my "power" to reopen it.

You of all people should know that:

If you want Staff to know something, you can PM one of us.

Making threads that you know will be closed is against the rules.

Making a thread and closing it immediately is against the rules for non-Staffers. Use the PM system if you need to get a message to staff.

You abused your power by making a thread and closing it just as much as you would have if you were to re-open a closed thread.

And I know you know this because you were around when other people were warned for doing the same things.

Your point was noted before you made the above post and it has already been discussed in the staff forum.

I should hope anyone posting attachments will have the common sense to check what exactly they're posting instead of blindly attaching something - blindly attaching things is stupid and there's no excuse if you end up posting something wrong, because you were at fault for not taking simple precautions. Just because there were numbers in the filename which caused confusion isn't an excuse - why should something safe to post here be categorised similarly to something that's not? Not to mention it's stored in the same location too. If someone chooses to keep their things poorly organised, they're the one to face the consequences of doing so. Even if there were numbers, again, there's nothing stopping checking the correct file is selected.

Therefore I see no reason to change the rules for attachments to be more lenient, or changing any part of the no-porn policy. "Unless it was obviously on purpose" doesn't even come into play here, otherwise you're giving people freedom to post porn "by mistake" perhaps out of context of their post at least once, because they'll know they'll get away with it by claiming it was an accident, because it appears to not be related to an otherwise valid post.


What happenned with Bert is nothing to do with this - that was a collective mistake of staff, and the result was the policy was misapplied. A policy applied wrong by mistake isn't a reason to apply it wrong again for someone else on purpose or to change the policy.

Peter emailed me just before I left for my vacation asking to be unbanned. He said it was an accident, which I don't believe for a second, but it was a nice try. I responded thusly:

We've made it a policy not to unban people. When that rule gets bent or broken, things get too complicated. I'm sure you'll find another message board that you'll like just as much, and you're welcome to join any of the message boards your EoFF friends frequent.

Circumstances happened that allowed the rules to be bent once and how the entire staff is having the flaming branch of assumptions stuck up our butts.

I think the staff communicates very well. We were all aware of what was going on when Bert posted that picture, but circumstances prevented us from acting immediately and we let it slide. Oops. We're not going to do that for every penis that sneaks its way into Sean's family-friendly message board.

Raistlin, I appreciate your opinion, and you're right that it was a mistake not to ban Bert when we had no intention of changing out porn policy, but your assumptions about our communication habits are giving me an itch, and I am going to flick you.

Since both these threads have already been closed, I wont be a turd and re-open them. If anyone has anything to say other than "But Bert didn't get banned!!!!1" or "But he didn't REALLY mean it!" then you're welcome to PM me so that I can repeat myself and every other staff member again.
