Is there a faster/better way...

...to Level up spells in FF2j/Origins FF2? I have Maria with Fire, Level 6, and even if I cast Fire on myself or a Class 3-5 monster, I'm still only getting 1 magic exp per casting, which is ludicrous. Any tips or secrets on getting magic up past level 5-7 short of going through the entire storyline and casting spells on Class 8 monsters near the game's end?

Any info you can give me on the rules about Magic Exp would also be greatly appreciated.

Just do the accept cancel trick over and over and it'll level a whole lot faster. That's what I did when I needed to raise my weapon/magic skills.

Here's how it works. You cast a spell, it raises that spell's counter by an incriment that is determined by the level of the spell. It doesn't matter who you cast it on as far as I know, you just need to use it a bunch. This means getting a character adept with every spell is going to be nearly impossible, but if you just pick and choose, you won't need to do so much work.
