The attached photo was forwarded from one of the last U.S. Marine companies in Iraq. They would like to have it passed to as many people as possible, to let the folks back home know that they remember why they're there and that they remember those who've been lost.

"USA only"? Last time I checked, a lot of other countries were contributing to the rebuilding/peacekeeping effort. Britons, Australians, Japanese, New Zealanders, countless others besides are all there, risking their lives either by fighting or by their very presence there.

Also, I think most people realise that soldiers have a tough life when they're in the field. It's why they're the only people who can do what they do. The training and dedication that allows them to endure conditions that would be harsh, even intolerable to most other people.

Incidentally, there are probably a lot of Iraqi civilians living in the same conditions right now. A lot of innocent folk lost their homes, families and livelihoods during the war.

Though I do appreciate the purpose of the troops and honor their courage, last time I checked launching an offensive against another sovereign country is not considered "protecting our freedom."
