Dr Unne's Guide to Not Being Banned from this Forum

    No spam.

This forum is for threads of a SERIOUS nature only. Treat all threads seriously, whether your own or someone else's. If you want to introduce yourself, wish someone happy birthday, or find out what everyone's favorite flavor of ice cream is, you are free to do so in General Chat.

What is serious to one person may not be serious to another. We realize that and will deal with things accordingly. But the final decision is the moderators' to make as to whether a thread or post fits here or not.

    Be respectful.

Do not make personal attacks against another person in any form. Disagreement, even strong and heated disagreement, is always fine, so long as it is also respectful, polite disagreement. Personal attacks are not allowed, whether explicit or implied. Criticism is OK, so long as it is respectful, constructive criticism. Do not insult another member.

If you think someone has an opinion which is foolish, post your thoughts about the opinion, not about the person who has that opinion. If you think a thread is pointless, don't post in it; it is not pointless to the person who made the thread, and that's all that matters. If someone asks for advice, give serious, helpful advice only. If you have nothing relevant to say, say nothing at all.

Do not make comments about another person's spelling or grammar skills, or intelligence, or sanity. Do not call someone a liar. Do not say anything that is prejudiced or derogatory. Recognize the difference between discussion and argument, and do not say things which purposefully provoke or anger another person into an argument. Trolls will be gleefully and immediately banned.

The following are examples of things that are OK to post.

Suicide is a selfish thing to do, because of how many people it hurts.
Atheism is a naive philosophy, completely out of touch with reality.
I think maybe you're making a bigger deal out of this problem than is necessary.
I don't really have much of an opinion on the subject. The topic at hand not very important to me, and here's why.
I'm pretty sure you're completely wrong about what you just said. See this link for example.

The following are examples of things that are NOT OK to post.

You're considering suicide? Well then you're a selfish moron.
Atheists are jerks. Have fun in Hell, pagan.
Quit whining about your petty problems and go fix them. Grow up.
    This thread is pointless.
Are you lying, or just stupid?

    Moderation.

We have moderators for a reason. Do not attempt to moderate your own threads. Do not tell people not to post in a thread, or not to post in YOUR thread just because YOU made it. People can post anything the moderators allow them to post. If you don't want someone's opinion about something, don't ask for it. If you have a complaint about something of this nature, contact a moderator (use the Warn button). Making moderator-like comments to other people is annoying to the person you're making them to, and quite annoying to the moderators. Everyone here is equal; treat your fellow members as your equals, and you will be treated as such yourself.

If a moderator tells you to do something, do it. Feel free to disagree, but do what they say anyways. You respect the moderators and their authority, and we'll respect your privilidge to post in this forum. If you have a major concern about something, make a thread about it in the Feedback forum.

    Being banned.

Failure to follow the above guidelines will result in a temporary ban from posting in this forum for one or two weeks. Further failures will result in permanent banning. This is of course at the moderators' discretion. You may receive a warning first, or you may not; consider this your warning, if you must.

    Summary

Don't be a jerk. If you can't help being a jerk, or strongly believe that being a jerk is a nice way to be, that's OK, we'll just ban you. Use common sense please.
