Starting a new message forum. *needs help*

I thought of a grand idea of starting a message board online for all the friends that I know, so that we can consistantly stay in the loop with each other. The only problem is, is that I have no idea of where to start.

All that I need is a simple message board that everyone can message on, that I can moderate and that is for free.

So could anyone suggest a good place where I can start one up?

Those are both good and great, but that's assuming he already has a host for them with PHP and MySQL included in the package. Though, correct me if I'm wrong, Lycos.co.uk offers that in their free webhosting package, so you could look into that.
