    Draft for 2005.....fake?

I was searching around the net, finding out whether this draft is for real.

Then I came across this site.

I thought you might want to look at this.

I think it's a horrible idea. I've said it a million times, but mandatory military service goes against everything a free society stands for.

That being said, it's interesting to read who is sponsoring HR 163...

The army is no longer "give a kid a gun and have him run at the bad guys", is it? It doesn't seem like a draft would be all that useful in the kinds of wars we're fighting right now.

I wouldn't want my country defended by a bunch of disgruntled slaves of the state. Draftees have no incentive to perform outside of fear of punishment, and that's a very weak motivator for anything beyond minimal performance. The simple fact is, that volunteers aren't in short supply. The military offers enough perks to make it a very viable option to the highschool graduate looking to get ahead in life. Granted, many were simply looking for free college and gambling that there wouldn't actually be a war during their four years (and probably feel gipped now), but a volunteer is a volunteer - the slot is filled. A draft isn't necessary.
    Knock yourselves down.
