Sir Auron's The Best!
Thats too bad it's not strong enough to defeat Seymour...i'm sure it can eventually kill him, after several attemps, though, lol. I hate Seymour. Anyways, thanks to you all for solving some of my FFX mysteries.
Sir Auron's The Best!
awesome...but sake...what is it? Is it a spiritual thing? is it an actual drink? Questions, questions, questions, questions....
Sir Auron's The Best!
Yep, to recap what the others have said... a Ronin is a masterless Samurai. They typically carried their sword-arm inside their sleeve, and wore a flask of Sake (rice wine). Auron does both of those things. He served High Summoner Braska, who (as we should know) died; after that, he wandered alone. A Ronin, of sorts.
Just another fine example of the FF designers bringing elements of history and mythology into their games.
Like Big D said, sake is rice wine, and it is a real drink.
I hope the mods will forgive my geeking out here.
As far as the Ronin are concerned, though they have been much romanticized (for example, the Ronin Miyamoto Musashi, author of the Book of the Five Rings and said to be one of the greatest swordsmen to ever lve) Ronin were, in actuality, often scorned, they had fallen from the naturally harmony, they had no master, they were often seen as bandits or worse. Many Ronin lost their masters and were thus freed of their ties, not necessarily a good thing in the Japanese society. Others were samurai who had failed and become dishonored, yet chosen not to commit seppuku and were cast out, or had to flee for their very lives.
The way he carries his arm is part of the ronin look. Ronin are know by a couple of signs, two of which are that they carry their left arm inside their jacket/kimono whatever, and that they carry a jug of sake on their belt. Not exactly sure what it means.

To squeak off topic for a sec, for your sake, ALAN, sake is pronounced SOCK-ee, or thereabouts. Aside from that, I have nothing else to add.
(Sorry, just had visions of ALAN heading into a sushi place and yelling "I WANT SOME SAKE!" Figured he may wany to pronounce it at least.)
Many thanks Christmas!
