    Wow...tabbed web browsing rules.

Now just one thing that has me still liking IE over Firefox...if someone can solve this then I'm switching to Firefox, and that is....

Are there any download managers out there where you can pause/resume downloads that will work with Firefox? I have dialup and if there arn't then I'm going right back to IE.

GetRight works just fine with Firefox, from my experience.

    www.download.com always has it.

I haven't used GetRight since I got Firefox because I wasn't sure if it'd work.

Just out of curiosity, why do you turn your computer off in the middle of a download?

I'll assume this is a serious question. Open up the .jar file of a theme that already exists, and start editing the graphics. Other than that, themes are just tons of CSS. Much easier to modify a theme that already exists than to make one from scratch. It is an incredibly painful process no matter what you do.

[qq=Baloki]You can export bookmarks from IE, their files in C:\Windows\favorites or C:\documents & settings\Username\favorites so your lying Mister and I won't have it![/qq]

No, I mean that IE doesn't have a menu option "Export bookmarks". You can hand-copy the whole directory of IE favorites, that's all. That's not as easy nor as useful.

[qq=BoB]Anyone who has a good firewall and doesn't go to stupid sites is likely to be pretty well protected and IE6 is pretty safe/robust.[/qq]

Unless something like this happens: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Jun25.html In which case any mainstream site can be a virus-installing trap. Apparently a couple thousand mainstream sites WERE, but the government isn't saying which ones, so who knows.

For everyone who says "I never got a virus, so nyah", how do you know you haven't? A good virus doesn't say "VICTORY! YOU'RE INFECTED! MY NAME IS IE_VIRUS_10834545, NOW PLEASE DON'T UNINSTALL ME! FORMATTING HARD DRIVE, PRESS ENTER TO CANCEL!" It just quietly sits in the background going about its business. (The second I got ANY virus, I'd format my hard drive and start with a clean install, because once you're infected, you never know what a virus is doing. Maybe it went and b0rked your Norton Antivirus program not to recognize various other viruses any longer. They do that kind of thing you know.)

You can say "Eh, that kind of crap never really happens to anyone", but there are tens of thousands of spam-relaying zombies out there, so much so that Comcast had to <a href="http://arstechnica.com/news/posts/20040629-3945.html">block port 25</a> for a lot of users. Zombies are computers on a network that have been compromised without the owner knowing anything about it, and a zombie can be used as free resources to do anything a malicious user wants it to do.

A firewall helps against some kinds of viruses, yeah. A firewall doesn't stop you from getting a virus if you happen to invite the virus in, or if IE happens to do it on your behalf. If you initiate a transfer yourself, everything is fair game after that. A firewall will stop Blaster sorts of worms; it will not stop a virus if you click on a malformed link in IE which looks like a link to Google and is impossible to distinguish as anything but such a link (in IE), but which actually points to a malicious site. Cue my <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;%5Bln%5D;833786">favorite link</a>. MS itself recommends that the only way to be safe from malformed links is by typing out every single URL by hand.

Its called dialup and people here will bitch if I leave the computer on all night while I'm downloading something that takes 4
    hours.

Bug in Windows versions of Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird. Go download now It's only the early hours of 9th here, and still the 8th in parts of the USA. Does Microsoft ever get bug fixes out in little over 24 hours of a bug being found? Not that I know of I guess the only flaw is the lack of automatic/easy notification/update for the average Joe Bloggs user out there. But then the average user, plus many sysadmins too, obviously don't bother get MS patches either anyway - otherwise the recent IE flaw wouldn't have affected so many servers, so perhaps this "flaw" isn't valid
