He steals stuff, so you will find alot less treasure and alot more empty treasure chests if I recall correctly.

None of the walkthroughs I know of say what it is.
EDIT: One walkthrough I read says he takes the Shock Whip from Jacole Cave, but that's it.
yeah, i have never read a walkthrough that says any positive effects of releasing lone wolf.
Well, maybe I'm full of crap. I can't find anything either. I was positive that there were positive effects.
Release him anyway. It's an option in the game and I believe in triggering all triggers!
He steals a Shock Whip, which is a great weapon for a Trainer! You should definitley not free him.
