If there was a X-3, I would have it have completely different characters, and Have it take place 1000 years after the events of X and X-2, eg: Zanarkand was rebuilt, and all the religious nonsense died down, there are plenty of airships you can use as a ferry to get from place to place, and all of the temples are now ruins that you can explore etc.. (I can go on all day...)
