Talking... Trashcans? My mall doesn't have these.
I think it's just hobos living in trash cans talking, rather than the cans themselves. They get a bit lonely and hungry sometimes, so you should talk to them and give them a sandwich, and maybe some money for some illegal booze.
You mean those yellow things that talk and you stick a coin on their hand and they flip it into their mouth? Are those even trashcans?

I've never heard one actually SAY anything but the ones at my local mall have "Hi! I'm Ricky Recepticle! Please put trash in me and not on the ground!" or something very similar to that written on them. It's pretty funny because they don't make the thing look like a character or anything, it's just a generic dirty green trashcan except for the writing.
Talking trashcan means theres a hobo inside, or a super intelligant mouse.
The ones in the city near me have 'Only losers drop litter' written on them in bright purple text.
They took all the rubbish bins out of the local precinct cos they were worried about bombs.
