Where or how can I check how much space I have back on my memory card...I know this may seem like a dumb question, but I only just bought my GameCube today...so I'm a little cautious.

Turn the gamecube on without a game in it (or with the lid up). You'll have a few options to select. Select Memory card. It will show both slots (if you have two in) what games are saved, how much space each game is taking, and how many empty blocks you have. You can also delete data from here.
Another way, if you have a game in, turn on the GameCube, and when the logo is showing, press A and the logo will spin around to take you to the menu.
