It would take about 5 minutes on the internet to find out what Slipknot members look like without their masks. Besides, there are many bands and music artists that do far more crazier things than Slipknot on stage and don't wear a mask.

And OK, they probably would sell records without the masks. But if you asked a non-Slipknot fan to write 10 words they associate with Slipknot, one of them would be masks. That's successful marketing right there.
