Actually, you can fight the final boss after you get into the Teleporter-thingie area in Leene Square. Look on the right telepod; you should see something glimmering . . .

You can only fight the final boss with two characters in your party at this point in the game though. However, this ending can be reached later in the game, when your party encounters the final boss through natural course of the game. However, although you have a full party, the first form (and perhaps subsequent ones, but most noticably the first) is much harder.

"You first time through the game I do believe you can beat the game at any point after you get to the end of time...though it would be impossible due to being grossly underleveled."
