Does your party 'mature' as they do in Final Fantasy I? If so, at what stage do they mature?

If you're referring to the class change, then no. There is no job system in FFII, thus there is no class change. If you're talking about levelling up, that doesn't happen either. You increase stats by using them.
As previously stated, the advancement of your characters is totally dependant on the way you personally play them.
in FF2 and on your party doesn't mature
Yeah, they just get whinier and brattier as the series goes on.

They're not big NES heads. It has nothing to do with the NES. That's just how they were drawn. It's called SD (Super Deformed) style. Many of you are probably familiar with SD Gundam.
Amano's art would say contrary to that.
I believe the "Super Deformed" look was simply the best option with the NES's graphic limitations.
true^ i personally don't like the way the "matured" characters look in FF1. the normal guys were better
Glance into the blackness hidden beneath your surface.
And enjoy the suffering, sanity drained in disrespect.
With such bedevilled faith in good, subsequently trusting evil.
Next step for mankind will be the last seasons in sin.
