I always use the defaults, except for FF1 where there are no defaults.

Fighter - Crono (sometimes Cloud)
Thief - Locke (sometimes Edge)
WM - Schala
BM - Vivi
BB - never used them seriously, just called them AAAAA
RM - Terra
