Default Windows XP SP2, supposed to be kick@$$

Hey all Windows XP SP2 was officially released 3 days ago. As of right now the only way to get it is through this link

    Here

The download is 266MB FYI. If that sounds like alot, you can wait a week or so until MS gets a more streamlined version built into windows update, and then you'll be able to get it there.

Btw, be sure you read the effects before installing SP2, because it does a LOT to your system, including installing a new version of IE and updating your winXP firewall. But there is supposed to be a performance difference, so happy dloading.

I think my Windows Update thing flashed a while ago saying I could update it, but I just told it to go away because I thought it was plotting against me. *Shrugs*

I refuse to install it, because of the massive (configuration) changes it wants to do to the OS Updating components is one thing, but changing how I've configured things isn't very polite of it. I'll sit back and watch everyone have large numbers of problems instead

Is the performance difference by any chance a speed decrease in everything?

Yes, there are some speed decreases in everything. From boot-up to app performance. Although maybe they've tweaked it to work better since I was running a beta on my old machine. I'm not going to install it on my new computer any time soon.

Plus, isn't there some new OS activation feature now? I hate that kind of stuff.

Does this download work for Windows 98, 1st edition?

Sadly, I was not joking. I actually still use Win98, 1st.

Well fine, but I meant you had to be joking about this XP Service Pack working for 98 1st.

I installed it the other day. I'm glad they have improved wireless support, but I turned off the software firewall since I have a hardware one, and it keeps nagging me about it.
