I'm gunna be watching it. Part of my holiday homework in PE.
I'm interested in the field Hockey Events as that is my sport. I'll just watch bits of it, I like watching the Gymnastic events as I think they are beautiful to watch.

Hockey, but then there's also the Luge and Bobsledding, all of the skiing and ski jumping, all of the skating...speed and figure, and even Snowboarding. I watch it all.Originally Posted by Kilika

Gee, I seem to be one of the few who thinks that the Olympic Games are the biggest, greatest sporting event ever
It's not often the entire world can agree to do something together so well. Then there's the fact that every event features athletes who've trained in their event for years, so you're seeing the absolute best that each nation has to offer. The events are all so brief, too, in most cases. No chance to get too bored, unlike most "big" sports which can last over an hour.[q=edczxcvbnm]I actually refer to the olympics as 'The sports no one gives a damn about'.[/q]Or how about 'the sports edczxcvbnm doesn't give a damn about'?
Ever watched the world's best martial artists or table tennis players go at it? Ever seen anything as physically impressive as a floor routine in gymnastics? It's the diversity of the Games that sets them apart. Even 'obscure' events like dressage, archery, airgun and others get the attention they deserve. And with the Olympics, you can be sure that the people competing are the best around, not just over-paid media creations earning their 'appearance fee'. So many of the events - swimming, target shooting, practically every track and field event - are about personal excellence, rather than simply beating a single opponent. The aim's not to win in any way possible, but to be the best you can be. Sets it apart from 'professional sports', in my books.
To add to Big D's comment, these athletes truly love what they do. They train, and they don't ask for money. It is an honor and a privilage for anyone of any nationality to come together for the Olympic games. Much as was the custom in ancient Greece, a certain peace seems to come with this as representatives from so many nations come together to compete and push their limits. The excitement they must feel is enviable indeed.
I am not fond of most sports, in fact, I detest most physical activity. However, I like the Olympics, if not for the sports themselves then for the principles that the games embody. It is truly an amazing concept.
My main reason for watching was to see if Michael Phelps could swing eight gold medals. So much for that.
Maybe I'll watch the U.S. basketball team embarass itself. . . naaaaaah. I'll keep it on track and field stuff.
It was refreshing to see the 'Dream Team' get thrashed by Puerto Rico. I know they're not the best team the US could field, but they're still worth something to the tune of 300mil. The Aussies got pipped by Greece, though. Phooey.
Are Roy and HG shown anywhere other than here? They're absolute class!
I really like the Olympic Games... 'cause of all the buzz around it, the variety of sports, the diversity of people (country vs. country), and the utter and over-whelming togetherness and competitive aura that event has.
Not everything is made of football, baseball, basketball and hockey, you know.I actually refer to the olympics as 'The sports no one gives a damn about'.

I never watch the Olympics. It just holds no interest for me. I rarely watch sports at all, and never very often, so the Olympics just arent my cup of tea. I occasionally enjoy watching gymnastics though, cause it's interesting stuff.
Well...it looks like everything is going swell, people are getting along, and everything seems great. I just hope that it can stay this way for next week! I WANT MY TRACK AND FIELD!![]()
