[A] Just another day in Ashford...

For my A-level art I am looking at the representation of the working classes in British art, and I especially have been looking at the works of Hogarth, especially his satirical moral etchings. Anyway, for my work I decided to do a modern day satirical picture of the good citizens of Ashford (my home town).

I thought I'd show it to you because it amuses me.

I think its a fairly accurate portrayal...

Yes, these are the chavs. Or Pikeys, whatever you prefer. Mayhap these are pikeys, as they don't wash and in all probability have fridges in their front gardens...

See the two typical types, the fat slag, cramming herself into clothes two sizes too small she waddles down to the local fast food outlet to purchase grilled and grease dunked treats for herself and her copious brood. Note the thong, this must be showing at all times.

Then you have the thin, tired out teenage mother of so many kids that she can't remeber their names. (She first fell pregnant at nine). She insists on eating healthy and consequently will only touch the MacDonalds Salad Plus Menu.

Both of them gasp for breath in the fug of nicotine and tobacco smoke that surrounds them as they apathetically watch their broods. The only time they arise from their half hearted stabs at definat conversation is when a child is seen acting happily. The child is then ordered to 'Siddahn an Shuttit' or they will not get a 'burrrrga'.

Ya kinda have to know them to understand the pic.
Yeah, townies and skallies, although I thnik skally is a more northern term. Pikey = evil gypsy.
Chav also means 'to steal' if you come from Canterbury.

Haha, that's awesome. It looks EXACTLY like two people I actually saw on the bus the other day. The expressions on the boy and the kids are just great too.

Yeah, I lived in the area of Manchester for five years. They used the term Skally there. I had a huge problem with some gypsy people at my primary school i went to when i was first moved there. All experiences with them were bad, so sadly i'm not to found of them. It's safe to say if i ever so the two that i was in class with i'd probably slug him good, the perverts

I like the drawing/sketch though, it made me laugh. sadly, i know a few people that are probably like that back in the town i lived there But you summed it up for some areas rather nicely. Kinda makes me want to do my own, but from my home town. I'm not british, i'm from indiana, lol. I just lived there for awhile. Nice though, your drawing ^_^

I think this may just amuse one to no end... I kinda like it, though I'd have drawn anime. But these... what are they called again? Chavs? Are very... interesting. Those kids seem like my siblings friends >.<
