    I haven't played either Saga games there or Dragon Warrior 7, but the other three there were good I'm actually replaying Threads of Fate (Dew Prism) in japanese at the moment.

    Valkyrie Profile is a neat game. If you know the myths about Valkyries then you'll know that the allies the Valkyrie recruits (SPOILER) have to die first! The biggest fun is collecting allies and trying to use different combinations in battle. The music is good too.

    I'm almost halfway through Dragon Warrior VII. The plot and premise are interesting (SPOILER) You live on an island in the middle of an endless ocean, but as you can use a shrine to travel back in time to various other islands and solve their problems. When you do and get back to the present, those islands appears on the map. The graphics is more reminecint of pre-VII FF games. The sheer number of jobs outdoes even FFT, but leveling up jobs is a huge pain. I find it addictive, because I want to collect every skill, but it requires a lot of patience.

    Valkyrie Profiles ::

    I love this game. *dies* The idea of breaking up a game into chapters like a book was rather odd at first, but this just completely suprised me how the storyline & plot twists and changes easily. I'd say 9 of 10. It's not for some people, but it's a really good game.

    Legend of Mana ::

    w00t! I looove teh lom. This game is uber kawaii, and is a must play. I rate it 10 of 10, but that's just me. It'd prolly average 8 or something to that point.

    Threads of Fate ::

    This game was mediocre. The only draw back i have on it, is the length of the game. I played it in 10 hours, played it again with the other character in same length, and then went back twice again via per character, and had all my skills and goodies and stuff, ... The length of the game is it's only draw back really. I'd say 7 or 8 of 10.

    I have not played saga frontier games. =/ I've heard they're really good though.

    I'm like, Mr. Arsonist 2000. And 2003, if you saw my beautiful work on assorted AOL CDs. I've kinda not been up to my old form in 2004, but here's hoping.

    Valkyrie Profile is split into a set number of chapters, which are further divided into 23 (or was it 24) "periods."

    Every place that you go in the game be it a town or a dungeon, or even locating one will take up a set number of periods. When you run out of periods, the chapter is over and you are given the chance to send some of the allies you recruited to Asgard to help fight during Ragnarok. You will be given a mission report at the end of each chapter. The trick is to please your superiors as little as possible, all the while still getting the job done.

    Certain events and certain party members can only be recruited in certain chapters, too.

    As for the games:

    Valkyrie Profile - I really enjoyed this game. I am very much into mythology on the whole, and I find Norse Mythology to be one of the more interesting types. The battle system is second only to Star Ocean and the Tales games (thats right, Grandia's isn't THAT good), and the story isn't that bad either. There are three endings, a bonus dungeon with two very difficult optional bosses in it, and a very badass villain.

    legend of mana - I didn't really care for this one as much as Sword of Mana/FFAdventure or even Secret of Mana. It has a stellar storyline, but for some reason I just didn't connect with it. Disregard anything I have to say about this game, because I really can't give an educated reason why I don't really care for this game.

    Threads of Fate - I didn't get very far in this game, but from what I played it was pretty average. I enjoyed Brave Fencer Musashi more.

    Saga Frontier - I love this game. This one along with VP are my favorite of the bunch. The game is one giant sidequest, split up into seven somewhat smaller sidequests. The stat increasing system is in true SaGa style which is a hell of a lot more fun than Experience Points. Thing is, after you finish about 3 of the 7 quests, you'll get tired, since all seven character quests tend to be the same. The good news is you can pick the game up a year later and continue on that 4th quest and eventually finish all 7. The reward for finishing all 7 is great. This game also has AWESOME music.

    Saga Frontier 2 - Some people prefer this one over SaGa Frontier 1. I'm sorry to say that I'm not far enough in this game to make an educated decision as to whether or not it is better than SF1, but from what I've played, it is not.

    I also recommend you look into a neat little Square game called Chocobo's Dungeon 2 for the PSX. It's a dungeon crawler, but one of the most addicting games I've ever played.

    To hell with Battletoads and Double Dragon.
    THIS is the ultimate team.

    Related to the Saga series, is Unlimited Saga a continuation or a new kinda thing? Also, are SF1 and 2 related to each other in anyway, or are they independent of each other, like FFs? Same with US if it applies.

    I'm not too sure about Unlimited Saga, but Saga Frontier 1 and 2 are not related storyline wise.

    I'm not sure if there are cameos of some characters from the first one in the second one, such as maybe Virgil, but they don't seem to be related storyline wise.

    To hell with Battletoads and Double Dragon.

    I just recently found Valkyrie profile for $15. Haven't had too much time to play it(maybe 15 hours) b/c of ffxi, but so far the games incredibly interesting. I've found a lot of flaws, but the intrigue keeps pulling me back.

    Secret of Mana is honestly one of my favorite games of all time. Top 3 probably. Legend of Mana was....ummm....cute but boring and seemingly pointless. I didn't like it.

    The first Saga game was the best IMO, Unlimited sucks so badly i deny that it's a squenix game.

    Threads is a cute simple game. I played it with this in mind, and found it enjoyable. Haven't played it since, but a good one-timer.

    Dragon Warrior VII is a great game. But it takes a helluva lot of patience to muddle through. It's one of those games you play for a week then forget about for a month, then come back.

    Bushido Blade II is an awesome square game you didn't mention but i thought i needed to. It's outdated graphically and physically but i still play it all the time. Never wears out for me.

    star ocean II is probably my second favorite game of all time(although it will probebly drop down behind FFVI soon b/c FFXI is quickly moving up the ranks, and FFTactics is sidling it's way to the top in a way it never did before even when i first played it)soooo much to do, and i love the characters and battle system. story line's a bit conviluted but i don't care. Star Ocean II pwns!!

    The front mission games rock as well. they don't stack as highly in my favor as final fantasy but they're still bright energetic and highly addictive games.

    Kingdom Hearts i forgot about kingdom hearts. ok KH is tied with FFVI as my fave game of all time. I think even if FFXI slides FFVI out of first, KH will hold on strong and stay on top, barely edging out FFXI as the best game EvEr. There's just too much good to say about the game. A glorious joy to play. My only gripe always has been and always will be those stupid ships that you build and fly in. If not for that aspect, the game would be perfect(well not really, but i could say it was without flinching)

    chrono trigger/cross are both outstanding games. they're not as polished(especially cross) as some other games, but chrono trigger is one of those games that if you haven't played you're seriously seriously missing out on the experience of a lifetime. I'm a better person for having played chrono trigger

    xenogears is another outstanding game. I think it drags a bit around the middle, but if you can get past that, you've come out the other side of the great tunnel. That tunnel of light that leads to paradise.

    Parasite eve was an underappreciated game and b/c of that we have PE2, which paled in comparison to the majesty of 1. I wish square would use that formula over again. I loved the targeting system, the silly plot, the outrageous monsters, the far-fetched battles, the final fantasy-esque cut scenes, and Eve.

    Einhander, is my 3rd favorite side-scrolling shooter of all time. Gradius is #1 and R-type is #2. Of course i've only played those series, which by no means are the best. Which isn't to say that einhander is not a good game therefore. Einhander is an easy game to pick up, but is difficult to be good at....same as all side shooters. The formula's all there to be a perfect game, but something about gradius just fascinates me.

    secret of evermore (quiets the dissenting crowd) was a deceptively simple game, that i played and beat even last week. Sorely outdated in every way....i have no friggin clue why i like it...i just do.

    Brave Fencer Musashi oh what i wouldn't do to get my hands on this game. I had it before, but it was lost in an Apt. fire. It's the one single game i haven't been able to get hold of, but i will one day....and then i can die in peace.
    OH and btw, there's a sequal coming. HOLY CRAP!!!!
    i can't wait. looks incredible to say the least

    I think i'll stop there, i went over the basics....there's many more squenix games out there, but most of the rest aren't worth mentioning. And the ones that are, i've forgotten.
