Thread: Tips

    Default Tips

When you eat out at a sit-in-non-fast-food-restaurant, what do you usually give for a tip for good service?

I usually drop about $5. I don't believe in 15% gratuity, that's simply too much...damn French. I ate at Genghis Khan restaurant in Crown Casino in Melbourne last year and the bill was a whopping $2500 AU(at the time, about $1300 US). Imagine paying a 15% gratuity for that.

I only tip when I receive good service, and the amount that is tipped also depends on that.

Even though I dont agree with tipping (don't get on me Reservoir Dogs style, and yes, waitresses here make minimu wage), because it's such an unfair thing. We tip waitresses who bring us our food, but we don't tip the people who teach our children... or, if we want to get into money issues, other people who work minimum wage in just as difficult jobs...

Anyway, I usually do tip, simply out of courtesy. I use the same system as my dad... when I sit down to eat, I estimate a tip in my head, three dollars for instance. Everytime the waiter is right there, filling my drink or asking about things or whatever, the tip goes up. Everytime I have to sit without a drink for a while, or I'm blatantly ignored, it goes down. It's gone all the way away at Denny's once, what with everyone ignoring us. Jerks.

Tipping is virtually unknown in my country, it's just never been a part of the national culture.
So, I've never actually tipped anyone. If I did venture into a country that tips, though, I'd be sure to do some research in advance, and work out what's customary.
In some German restaurants, I believe, the menu includes a recommended tip value for each dish. Very nifty.:twocents:

    Yep, thats right.

If I'm feeling lazy, there's this card that my family tkaes with us everywhere that has the recommended tip thing on it, depending on what your food costs. But mostly, I just do the whole 15% thing, maybe 20% if the service is really good. I haven't gone anywhere that's been super expensive, so it hasn't been a problem.

Here in vermont waiters/waitresses make less then minimum wage so they pretty much live off the tips. I dont usually pay for much food besides mcdonalds or taco bell so I hardly tip. Excpet when I'm with my mom and she needs some ones or something I'll help out.

    That's... a lot! :o

Anyway, I usually tip depending on what I bought. If it costs 5$, I'd tip 2$, but if it was 30$+ I'd tip just 5$.

Ditto that, really. What really irks me is tip jars at places. I suppose I would put something in if I ordered something really complicated, but I am not giving anyone a tip for just any smoothie.

I base my tip on three things:
    Promptness
    Waiter Additude
    Food
Boy am I an unfunny ass.

I tip pizza boys well. Usually because it's my parents money.
    "Alright, that'll be $12."
*hands over $20* "Keep tha change, yo. Gimme my pizza."

I try my damn best to tip a buck and only a buck(maybe not even). If the service was above and beyond what it should have been...then they get a real tip from me. I don't really believe in giving tips just to give them. Here is the Steve-Graph-O'tips

troutty Service = a penny just to show you that yes I remembered to tip and that they sucked.

Normal Service = A buck. They did what they were suppose to do so I guess they should get something.

Good-excellent service = 15-25% depending on how rich I am at said time. They did a damn good job and I am going to let them know it. I love waiters who come into the conversation halfway in and just jump in. Makes everything so much better and kick ass.

I also don't like tipping people who deliever stuff to my house. They are getting payed to do that in the first place and only that. They don't take my order or ask if everything is okay. They just bring it to me. On top of most places already add a few bucks onto the bill for a delivery charge. THE DELIVERY PEOPLE. If they ed with my food then I will not accept it and call up the resturant and complain.

Or do they? WHen I'm not taking a delivery, I'm taking orders, and/or making the food. You make me sad, sir.
I get seventy-five cents for gas. That's not effecient enough for a tip.

A tip is a form of graditude. That's why I get pissed off when people don't tip. Because it's basically a slap in the face, that I drove all the way to you asshole trailer to bring you your food because you're too damn lazy to get your fat ass up and drive to the damn pizza place, and I get crap.
"Oh it's what you're supposed to do! You should be happy with the pay you get!" No, I'm not happy with the pay I get because the pay I get SUCKS. That's why I decided to become a driver. I expect tips to be part of my pay.

I'd love you jerks who are too cheap to tip to become a waiter or a driver for a day. Then you'd understand how important they are. Wieners.

Seriously. People like you piss me off.
