But here's a question. Is the expansion needed to continue playing? I don't plan on getting it right away, for I just don't have the extra money to get it right now. So will not getting it affect me in any way? Or can I continue playing the game normally as I am now, till I'm ready to get it?

you dont ever need expansions. Expansions are NOT mandatory.

Watch the preview on POL, Bahamut is the thing of destruction, you will not control him. He seems to be keyed in with Airship Armada battles.

yeah, looks like Bahamut is going to be a boss battle... I seem to remember some sort of "Bringer of the apocalyps" thing in one of the translation threads I read... I can't wait to get my butt kicked by him... but I still have a lot of other monsters to get my butt kicked by before I hit him

I'm gonna buy it, but I'm not pre-ordering or anything. If it's at the store when I call, great, I'll head over and get it. Meanwhile, although I am anxious to see the work they have done in this new installment, I see no way that it will affect my immediate gaming enjoyment, except the "emptiness"... I read somewhere that it's all lvl capped at 30 when you head out that way... which means buying back all my lowbie stuff... yay. Still, looks awesome. Just not a major priority for me atm.
