I know of a few anime specialty stores:

Cambridge (in Boston) has an excellent store called Tokyo Kid. They carry collectables, model kits, DVDs and soundtracks.

New London, Connecticut has a store called Sarge's Comics. A little less in the way of collectables, more comic books and gaming systems.

Providence, Rhode Island used to have an anime store, but it's gone now. :P

I live in australia, and its hard to get any kind of collectable figureines without importing, my local comic shop orders them in for me, and i get a hefty discount for spending all my money there, EB is a let down because they refuse to order in or do any deals with the they have, thanks to Kaboon Comics i got my Heretic Bahumat and Yojimbo action figure set for around $60 bucks a peice, major discount, seeing as they were $100, so try checking any run down little comic shops, if you frequent the shop regularly and spend a lil bling bling, they might just be nice to you and order the in.

Just dont forget to pay them.... i did that once, the dude is still chasing me, everytime i see him i have to hide behind the nearest fat person.
