Default Demon's Gate spanking me something fierce!

Well, since I'm away from town and this computer (only here for the weekend), I can't just instantly fire up a character-editor and... correct the odds in that fashion. :o Hey, don't look at me like that! ... Well, not NOW, anyway. So...

    Party: Cloud, Aeris, Red XIII
    Location: Temple of the Ancients
    HP-range: 1200-1600
    Levels: 30-33
Damage dealt by Demon's Gate (and the damn red eye-blobs in the 3 o'clock room), standard attack: 1400
(That Red Dragon-thing was defeated by force of will alone - shoulda seen this problem coming.)

Do the math... Goin' back to a previous save to level up and invest in a million HP Plus-materias. Any suggestions for a reasonable level/HP to tackle this SOB? I'm thinking 2000-2500-ish HP.

    Well, I don't exactly know what you're asking...but here I go:

The key to defeat the Demon's Gate is Clouds weapon "Nail Bat."
If you can get your hands on that, he's dead meat for sure.
You'll find it somewhere in the "City of the Ancients."

P.s: He's so damn easy...get it together my friend

What does the nail bat do that gives you such an advantage?

And the REAL key to defeating him is Aeris's aultimate limit.

Well, I'm too lazy to get Heavenly Gospel (... her L4 IS called that, innit?), and I want my materia to shoot up. NB doesn't hold any slots. While I do have the Nail Bat (get pushed off the clock by the second-hand), I still don't see how it'll make a difference, as DG all but kills one character (definite kill if it's Aeris) in just one attack unless I go really wild with Cure 2. What I need above all else is HP, which I'll go purchase as soon as I can. And, of course, offensive might on par with Knights of the Round... The damn thing gave me a REAL whipping.
Also, I'm gonna relish raping those red blobs with eyes all over, and no mistake! You know, one of these days I'll just have to piece together a picture incorporating a beam-fight from FS2 and place those blobs in the middle... It ain't fair to absorb 1400 HP without taking any damage first!

Now, what I was asking was simply this: At what level/approximate HP-range am I in a decent position to kick DG inna nuts?

The Hecteyes gave me trouble the first time through. I'd recommend using Odin and hoping it does Steel Bladed Sword.
Anything over 1000 HP I would've thought okay. I always seem to end up using Bahamut summon and Climhazard as much as possible. I don't remember if the attack that drops a rock on a character's head is elemental or not, but maybe try Earth/Titan + Elemental in your armour just in case. Without Aeris' Great Gospel you should probably stick with Healing Wind to back up your Cure 2.

I will do this. Nothing in my life matters except this. No moment in my life exists except this moment. I am born in this moment, and if I fail, I will die in this moment.

Well, I usually do what Jenova-Rebirth suggests. Well, before I got Great Gospel anyway. The boss doesn't stand a chance against Great Gospel. But, yeah, I remember doing climhazzard very often. Probably because I died over and over again when I first fought him. Good luck.

The Nail Bat has a very high attack power, although it doesn't have any slots or any growth, just remove it after you've defeated the fiend...that's how I always do it...and I've not been killed a single time.

The Red Dragon and the Demon's Gate have always been rather challenging for me. My strategy is just to shift everyone to the back row. I fought with Cloud, Vincent and Yuffie and equipped Cloud with Long Range Materia and it usually paid off in the end. Vincent's Galian Beast pretty much does the killing for you. Climhazzard and newly acquired Bahamut just make the inevitable victory come just that little bit sooner.

I've never bothered getting Great Gospel. In fact, I'm overusing Aeris if she gets Seal Evil.

Use Bahaumut and then do physical attacks and limits the rest of the battle. Anything elemental will do squat.

Back row... :o Why didn't I think of that? Well, I'll pump up my levels/HP a bit all the same, just to be on the safe side. If I get through those Hecteyes and get the Umbrella or whatever it is, perhaps it'll weight up the Nail Bat... Hm... And GREAT Gospel, not Heavenly. Right-o.

As for those Hecteyes, I'm trying for Odin all the time, but they whack Cloud (gave Odin to him) the first round with their ghastly Absorb, then NPC #3, then #2. Grr! Heh, maybe I should level up to at least 35 with the weakest character and REALLY tear 'em up! Then reload and do it again a few times. To hell with Hecteyes!

Odin will also use Steel-Bladed Sword unless the enemy is immune to instant death, at which point, he will use Gunge Lance.

I fought with Cloud, Vincent and Yuffie
May I ask how this was possible? You have to have Aeris in your party at this point.

Odin will also use Steel-Bladed Sword unless the enemy is immune to instant death, at which point, he will use Gunge Lance.
also if there is more than one enemy he will use Steel-Bladed Sword, where as if there is just one, immune to death or not, then he will use gunge lance.

I agree with Hsu, deathblow materia will be very useful for this fight.

Get Big Guard. It makes your characters faster and halves all the damage they receive. Put everyone to Fury status (with Hypers) and keep using limit breaks, Bahamut and the strongest summons you have. IIRC, Demon Wall is very well protected against most magic and he can take physical beating too. Heal when needed, Cure spells and Aeris' limit breaks are great for that purpose. If you have Regen, cast it on everyone. I don't think you need that high levels, though about 2000 HP should be fine. It's a pretty hard boss, I remember being stuck on that one for a few tries during my first time through FFX. However, keep yourself protected and healed, and keep using your limit breaks, and you'll eventually defeat that wall.
