My preference, actually, is the older albums. They *DO* have a greater capacity of hits as opposed to the newer ones. Truthfully, I actually think that MTV has destroyed good music, as mentioned, as artists are now churning out cookie cutter crap as opposed to actually putting thought, heart and soul into their music. THAT, my friend, is my issue.
Yes, but you should look beyond MTV.
The good bands will never be played on MTV.
Because MTV knows that the crappier the music is, the more the people will like it.
But there is other music then what's being played on MTV.
There are new albums with no week songs at all.

But that's the problem. All those no-name bands don't see any/see very little airtime, and I'm NOT gonna go out and grab a CD, just cuz the cover looks good, or what have you. Y'see, in truth we really are arguing the same side here. We are both in agreement that Pop music as it is is destroying the music industry.

But you can always look up a band on the internet.
Maybe download one or two tracks from an album, decide if it's good or not, then buy it.
Because the good bands never have and never will get airtime.

Thats basically labeling anything and everything crap just because its been played on the radio...which is pretty dumb IMO.

    Two things:
1.) That's why I have Blubster, and whatnot.

2.) Even if I can download 'em, not knowing ANYTHING about these bands is still a handicap. A deeply unfair sytem, I must admit, but I'm not just gonna randomly download off of some site. And I'm not gonna buy an album I know nothing about.

    Many thanks Christmas!

I should've written "best" instead of "good".
There will always be a few decent mainstream bands.

Really? Could you describe the point a little then?
I'm just saying that the best bands will never get any airtime.
(except maybe on some show with a theme on their kind of music or something).
I know people have different views on what's considered good music.
I'm saying it as a fact that what I consider good music will never get airtime, due to it's uncommerciality.

    I understand that.
But I promise you that the day they play Richthofen on MTV, I will personally travel to you and apologize.
