    FFXIV Character

Regarding a remake: One of the things that I enjoyed so much about FFVII was indeed the boxy graphics. It was, in my opinion, the perfect mix between 3D graphics and allowing the gamer to use his/her imagination. Another thing I loved was not having voice-overs, for the same reason. I loved being the character, not watching and listening to him.

As for the sequels and prequels, I don't mind them. Why? Because hey, it's a story, and people have been writing prequels and sequels for years in fanfics and whatnot. I never had any problem with them. So now the company has done the same, but they were able to do it using games and movies. Great! When I look at the prequels and sequels, I think of it as "the perspective of the writers of the games". If I don't like how it goes, I'll just imagine my own different ending. It's not saying YOU MUST AGREE WITH OUR PERSPECTIVE OR DIE. It's a game, it's a story, you can use your imagination as you like.

I don't think they ever had the intention of making the games/movies 'the same' as FFVII. Why would they? They're not FFVII, it's only natural that they should be different. I would hope they still use materia and so forth for consistency in the world, but as for the characters and storyline, it's only logical that they would be different. I doubt SE ever believed they would be able to better FFVII with prequels and sequels. They will, however, know that people enjoyed FFVII so much that they'll jump at the chance to see how SE writes their story. Let's be blunt - they'll make a crapload of cash out of this, and good on them for doing so.

Oh, and yeah, I finished FFVII. I think the majority of people who post in this forum have. It's also my favourite game, so yeah.

On a sidenote, anyone interested in this topic might be interested in the results of the current www.eyesonff.com poll. Unfortunately I tried to check it just now and the poll site was down, but hopefully it'll be back up soon.

I know everyone was demanding something in the form of a sequel for FF7 ever since the first screens of FFX-2 were pitched to the public. Apparently, no one could understand why "teh best FF eva" didn't get a sequel.

Now that SE have finally answered the call and have thrown out TWO sequels to Final Fantasy VII, all you can do with them is nitpick and tear it apart. For shame. Not only that but SE have cooked up a good, working marketing plan on these two sequels:
    (1) Everyone likes movies. Let's make AC a movie.
    (2) Everyone likes Vincent. Let's make him the main character.
They're going to make millions off these two sequels whether you like it or not. There's always going to be a few million people out there that disagree with you and a few of them might even buy two copies just to spite your overly-demanding ass.

Edit: <-- Smiley face to establish that I am not as angry as I sound.

people have always asked for a sequal or a remake. Recently with ff10-2 they figured they could get away with it, and scince it was a huge hit, they could milk more money out of it. That will keep cashing in until a better bandwagon comes along, then they will move on from it and start cashing in on that.

I'm goin' with the general consensus. FFVII was good. It's up there with my favorite games of all time. Yet, that doesn't really change anything.

I wasn't really on the bandwagon for sequels, prequels and spinoffs. I liked that the story had an open ending. I liked to be able to dream up an ending for myself, something how I thought it ended. I'd even emerge myself into fanfiction so I could see how other people thought it should end. That was all good and fine. The best thing about the Final Fantasy series was that they weren't connected and they were each individual.

When FFX-2 came along, I was crushed. I thought the ending of FFX was great. I love a sad ending that's presented well. Even when (SPOILER)Tidus was underwater and woke up and swam upwards it was still a good ending that kind of gave it an extra spin for you to wonder. I didn't complain a lot about it, at least not here. Sure, if a discussion was brought up, I'd say I was disappointed, but no sense in complaining, right?

Anyways, so when the game came out, I realized that it wasn't really all that bad. Sure, I didn't particularly like the game. I had fun playing, but it's nothing to shout about. That was when I realized it doesn't really matter. It didn't ruin the ending of FFX for me. I still look back on that as one of the best endings out there, though I still don't think the rest of the game is anything to shout about (or whine about for that matter) but it still holds on it's own.

That's the best it's been put. If you don't like how it turns out, decide you'll stick with the original ending.

If you really think that the sequels, being delivered through different methods (a movie and a shooter) are going to somehow mess up FFVII because they're not an RPG sequel, then don't get them.

Maybe Dante WolfWood is right, maybe they are building us up for a direct RPG sequel, but I highly doubt it.

The more I think about it, the more I believe that there wouldn't be enough substance to make another full RPG sequel. Seriously, if they're putting the sequel into a 1.5 hour (roughly) movie, how could they make a whole RPG out of this? I don't think DoC will do much to further that plot either, I feel it's going to be about Vincent and his own problems.

Well, to each is own. You may not be getting the kind of sequel you want, that's tough luck. Make do. Who knows? Advent Children might become your favorite movie and if you give Dirge of Cerberus a rty, you might love it to death.

Ummm... I don't wish to sound out of place or anything but if it annoys you that much, couldn't you just *not* buy them? You'll save your self some money, and keep the ending how you want to.

(personally, I kinda like it being a DVD. I don't have time to become obsessed wish ANOTHER FF game. I need to sleep some time. time to watch DVD-hr and a half. Time to finish game properly - 30-50hrs)

Bah, darn you, Mo Nercy. I wanted to say the things that you said. I also agree with Loony Bob in that voice-overs would ruin the game, though I wouldn't mind spiffed up graphics. I'll admit; I squeeled when I saw Cloud's AC model.

If SE actually created a remake of FFVII with new age graphics and voice overs, it'd take a darn long time and they would have to delay production of the succeeding FF, which would anger a significant amount of fans. Whenever someone gives people what they want, the people complain and whine, regardless of the giver's generosity. FF fans cried and cried for years for an FFVII sequel and now we have one. A 40 hour game sequel would just be superfluous. There's just no need for SE to go that far. What would Cloud do for 40 hours? Kill monsters? Collect materia? Stop an evil organization while chasing a madman? Use Omnislash? Oh, wait, all of that stuff is already in FFVII and, quite possibly, AC.

Point be told: stop bickering and enjoy what SE has blessed us with.

OH SQUARE! WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?!?!?! Goes the cry of the fanboy. God, threads like these make me want to start more threads about Heidegger and King's Knight. I've said it before and I'll say it again:

SQUARE-ENIX IS A VIDEO GAME COMPANY, NOT A RELIGION!

If they make a game you don't like, so what? It's not like you HAVE to buy it. It's not like they're smashing every last copy of your favorite game by them. It's not like we're even getting treated badly by them. They're making THREE NEW FFVII titles! That's so ridiculous I could cry.

It also really irks me when FF fanboys whine about how bad they have it when really they're getting preferrential treatment! Look at how many FF games have been made. Now look at how many DQ games have been made. Now look at the ratio at which these games got released in the US. Squenix has been treating their FF fan base VERY well. Meanwhile they're just one finger short of flipping off their US DW fans.

You're right DJzen. It's not a religion. It is, however, an addiction. I'll take anything they give me no matter how rubbish.... Luckily me and the people at SE seem to be in the same mind about things, so I have yet to be disappointed.
