Really I would love to know why this name was given to the great British sport, Football.

Oh dear. Every time this debate starts, we (the Brits, naturally) get shouted down by irate yanks. Best to let it be.

Because Americans are silly and have to rename everything just for the sake of being akward. \..like they do with all these anime dubs.
Oh and so people won't get it confused with the sport that Americans call football and everyone else calls "American Style Football".
I like Kung-Fu.
soccer is the french word for the game and FIFA's offical name for it. But that's because FIFA was set up by the french and hence they used there name, But they are wrong it's called football.
Your sig is too hilarious and witty, thus i have removed it to protect the minds of all forum goers

American Football is based on Rugby, aka Rugby Football, where nobody wears padding at all. Now that is a macho game.
Nothing wrong with soccer/football either. Sometimes faster-paced than rugby, since the players are more streamlined and athletic, as upper-body strength is less of an issue.
It's usually called 'soccer' here in NZ, where rugby is the national game, and thus often called 'football' or simply 'footy'.
Nice work, Pies. Foot = Kick. Kick. Ball. No Hands. Foot. Football.Originally Posted by TasteyPies

At least they get a cup. Then again this was just for school. This was Tag football, so we didn't "need" pads. We still tackled and stuff though. We were trying realy hard to get those tags. Some kicks broke some stuff.Originally Posted by Big D
