Who do you prefer for our Prime Minister, John Howard or Mark Lathom? Your opinions on each?

Elections in Australia...?
I thought the candidates had a pub brawl and the looser became prime minister; as for the winner, he gets free Beer until the next election.

Howard's not my favourite, but fortunately Australia's foreign policy is less, uh, 'forthright' than that of the US, and the candidates' domestic policies are less polarised than in some other countries... so really, the outcome of the elections hopefully won't change anything too much. Just enough to satisfy the demands of the majority in certain areas, without significantly prejudicing those who disagree.
Fairly standard Westminster (English-style) system. Bicameral (two Houses, an upper and lower one). The Prime Minister is the head of the executive, which is also a part of the legislature. People vote for whichever party they want to become the government; the winning party's leader becomes PM. Other parties get seats in the Houses by winning a certain share of the vote in each state.Originally Posted by Behold the Void

I can't vote. =( I turn 18 in Febraury, but it'd be alright to vote I think.
I'd be voting for Howard, however, I just don't like Lathem and he just comes across as a REALLY bad leader and keeps repeating himself - such a bore. Howard has done fine for us, and I believe he'd do an even better job in the years to come, if he were elected. So yeah. =)

GO ON ROVE LIVE!!~
You suck. Now it's too late.
Yea he never went on Rove. And Rove tried so hard to![]()
Howard's done a pretty good job. I'm pretty sure he'll win this coming election 'cause the polls show that he's got a pretty good lead on Latham. But something debatable is whether a vote for Howard is really a vote for Costello.
OOC: Hehe. Rove's What The's were awesome tonight..hehe. Joan Lust.
John Howard is a snivelling little weasel and an embarassment to all Australians. Just sent in my postal vote. Go Latham!
Except my division is a safe Liberal seat - phooey.![]()
WHY DIDNT HOWARD CALL ROVE? all rove wanted was a call!!
alot of emphasis is put on interest rates which does concern me atm...i hear Latham is doin something about uni fees which is good! but im 17 so i cant vote yet....theres some of talk about Latham ruining the relationship between Australia and America which is weird...
lol the greens want to legalise marijuana(sp?)......weird!?
so right now i have no clue who should win....

It's obvious who should win this election. Australia, as one civilized human being to another, I implore you, vote green!!!Originally Posted by *ETERNAL FANTASY*
Yes, but the moment marijuana is legalised, the enforcement branch will then be able to test for the drug - as is the case for alcohol.
I would, however, push for decriminalisation of this substance.
