I have to say new if i did choose though, only for the higher technical aspects of the games .... now if they were to re-release 6, it would be a contest![]()

Seriously though, your post is the best and most insight post in this thread, IMHO.
I like both old-school and new-school games, and they both have their great games and flops. For example, I think FF4-6 are pretty much excellent, and FF1 and FF3j are well done, but FF2 was a flop. As for new-school, I think FF7 and FF9 are totally awesome, and FF8 and FFX-2 are well done, but FFX was a flop for me. FFT is also an excellent game.
The definition of new-school and old-school also come into the play. If 2D means old-school and 3D means new-school, then I guess that means FF1-6 are old-school and everything after that is new-school. However, if medieval fantasy style is considered old-school, then I'd count both FFT and FF9 as old-school, especially when FFT feels a lot like FF5, and FF9 feels a lot like FF4.
Overall, if all 3D games are considered new-school, I'm not sure. However, if FFT and FF9 can be considered old-school, then I'm most likely siding with the old-school.

Yeah, the new generation consoles' 640x480 True Color (24-bit) resolution will allow much more graphical detail, and with it's much greater power (compared to the SNES), they could make it look a lot more flashier for magic and summons (can't get enough special effects, in my opinion). They could even make it 3-D, but keeps it's overhead 2-D look (kinda' like RPG Maker 2 for PS2, if you've seen it). I think making it fully 3-D is a little too much.
Either way, I don't think they're even planning on such a remake in any near future.
What I think they should do, whenever they remake past games for newer systems (like re-releasing FFVI on the PS), they should improve the 2player mode. Maybe have it so you can have two characters running around the place at the same time (P2 not being able to go off screen, of course, or have it do a split-screen) and have them both have their own money and items and be able to talk to different people at the same time. Then, when battles start, P1 controls his/her selected character(s), and P2 controls his/her's like it does already. I think that'd be kinda' cool. It might get a little confusing sometimes, but you'd get used to it, and they'd have to make it so that you always have at least two characters in your party. Or better yet, they could even make it so that the two fight in their own battles (except for boss battles), but if one is having trouble, the other could jump in by "examining" the sprite of the player in trouble.
Think about it, one person could be running around Figaro Castle as Edgar buying stuff for a discount, while the other is training outside with Shadow, Terra, and/or whoever. Then, if the one in training gets in trouble, the one using Edgar (who just happened to have bought some Tonics or Potions or whatever) could jump in, heal the group, then run away to buy more stuff (assuming that he doesn't get knocked out in the process).
That would probably anger a bunch of FFVI fans though, so that will probably never happen(sounds nice though...to me).
Haha, that sounds really nice actually.
I always thought some 2 player aspect added to the FF's truly would make them the best games out.
They have yet to make a 2D RPG that really utilizes the power of current consoles, though Paper Mario 2 looks like it might actually come close. Just imagine the level of animation they could pull off in a sprite based game. Imagine how fluid it would be. Imagine the detail they could include. Who needs 3D anyway?
Or they could use some pseudo-3D, resembling the graphical style used in SNES games such as Chrono Trigger, Seiken Densetsu 3 and Super Mario RPG.Originally Posted by Jolts

Shigeru Miyamoto considers Paper Mario as 2˝-D.

Putting it like that would be kinda' wrong since the Nintendo DS is a portable system. To play it 2player, you'd most likely need two separate systems, in which each player would have their own two screens. Of course, if they did do it like that, it'd better to have one screen be the person's character running around, and the other screen for battles. Now that would be much easier. That way, P1 can watch P2 battling while running around, and P1 would be able to see if P2 is in trouble or not (in case P2 is too proud to admit he or she needs help) and vise versa.
