It's a Russian assault rifle, bit questionable as to what it's doing in Cid's hands maybe, eh? Perhaps he enjoys a bit of high altitude clay pigeon shooting....using the tiny bronco...and a real assault rifle....and real pigeons.

some of the characters even USE guns

Ah yes, right...sorry about that. The russian mafia helped fund FF7 during its production, so as a thank you Square did some very subtle product placement for us. Did I say us? I meant them, obviously. I'm so not in the russian mafia...
