Fury is similar to a status ailment, like poison. Fury means that the character will take more damage, but their limit gauge will fill up more quickly. Sadness is the other half of this ailment, and that's where the limit gauge fills up slower but the character takes less damage. To remedy/heal either situation use a Tranquilizer.

Your characters can have both fury and sadness...
Fury: You take more damage but get limmitbreak faster.
Sadness: You take less damage but get limmitbreak slower.

You can only have one or the other (or none), you can't be in Fury and Sadness at the same time.
Using a Tranquiliser (cures Fury) on an unaffected character will put him/her in Sadness, and using a Hyper (cures Sadness) on an unaffected character will put him/her in Fury.

Both fury and sadness have a positive/negative side....

Both can be useful, but both can be a hinderence.

Fury is useful when you have high HP, as you can use it to build up your limits and cause major damage....

Sadness is good if you have a low HP, as you take less damage in the fights...

Ops, I didn't notice that Flying Mullet answered before me. The replys were sent at the exactly same time!

Anyway, one last thing that you should know... the limmit gauge will be purple if you have sadness and it will be red if you have fury.

fury can be a good thing and a bad thing....fury get's your character's overdrive completed faster....but some times it can cause your character to attack themselves and the enemy on impulse.

I love Fury. I always put my characters in Fury. You gain limit breaks a lot more faster and as a result, you learn new ones really really fast. Meteorain before Junon = Pwnage.
