Cool, just when I thought my opinion of the army couldn't get any lower!

Some say freedom is free, but I tend to disagree
    And who wrote that?

    This person, apparently.

On your opinion of the army, I fail to see why it makes it worse, or if it concerns the army administration (then I can see why) or the soldiers (and in this case I don't).

    And then there is Death

Let's, for point of arguement, say that the US has been invaded, and the President has been imprisioned and held on charges for his illegal dealings with White House political interns. Now, let's also say this country that has invaded and stopped the genocide taking place within our own borders (The president has been busily destroying the Hispanic population within the US) this country that has invaded is dominated by a Satanist majority. now, not everybody in this country is going to think that being a Satanist is bad, but a large majority would. Also, every soldier tasked to keep the peace in the US would be seen as a Devil-worshipper, whether or not he is.

    how would you react?

Being fair to the invaders, they have provided running water for the entire southwest region, something the southwest hasn't had since the President decided to destroy the Hispanic population. So, people have running water again, and can walk through the streets without fear of the US soldiers. The invaders have also provided food for many starving people throughout the country.

Let's also say the invaders have removed the supreme court, congress and executive branches from our government since they all exist to benefit themselves more than any of the population, just take a look at all the rights and privelages members of the Senate have given themselves. Mel Brooks noticed and made a movie in which he quoted again and again "It's good to be a Senator."

The new government is a High Council, reminiscent of the Invaders' own religious system that works well enough in the government of their country and people.

    How would you react?

Benefits, liabilities, detriments, it all boils down to this. People never accept change when it's handed down from on High.

    Makoto, Honesty.

It concerns the administration. I don't like soldiers, but I really can't say I can blame them, I mean, it's not like they are responsible of what is happening.

That person didn't really write it. It's an old army cadence to sing while keeping instep.

Oh, thats what I was going to say. Only I was going to add "while being completly drunk". How come I have seen this poem quoted several times already? I mean, there must be more poems with the same message and a minimmum of quality. Not like I know of any, I don't read that kind of poetry.

So he got the third prize for stealing a poem? Cool!

Edit: Oh, look, there is the cadence. It's not very good either, but I guess it serves it prupose.

If America didn't fight for it's freedom with a gun in the American revolution, we wouldn't be free. That freedom wasn't free, a lot of people died fighting for it. You can say this or that in argument that it doesn't have to be that way, but the point is that it is that way.

Yeah. You don't have to support the war, but you can at least support the soldier. It's the most selfless thing a person can do - they're going through all this to protect you. It's not their fault that the administration is full of dumbasses.

I agree and disagree with what is happening to said person. I agree he should be disaplined. He is being paid to do a job. If you were to write something like that about your company, how much longer would you still be employeed there? Not very long.

I disagree with the actual punishment of a maybe 20 years in jail. Thats just insane to even consider jail for something like this.

I'm so glad you said this!! Most people don't understand that. They don't want to listen so they say, it's still your choice. If you think it's wrong, don't do it. They don't understand that we gave up that freedom to choose and to go against the person who chooses for us has very dire consequences, like 20 years in prison maybe?

I however, don't agree with that statement 100%. I will respect the soldier, so long as the soldier isn't doing bad things. I saw a video once of a few soldiers, who shot a wonded Iraqi soldier as he was trying to escape (he was unarmed, rolling on the ground in the opposite direction) after they shot him, they all laughed and you could hear them cheering. It's the same with the Abu Grhaib prison thing. I don't respect any soldier who acts like this. Those soldier can rot in hell for all I care. However, the regular everydoay soldier (ie the majority of them) who really aren't bad people I respect. Not because they are soldiers, but because they are people.

One thing you have to understand about those movies is that the soldiers in them were from the Army Reserves. Weekend Warriors who live a normal life then do this army thing on the side for fun. We here in the real Army are constantly being subjugated because somebody misses home and decides they're going to do whatever the want because they shouldn't have to be doing what they're doing. They joined for college money and now have to do their job. They're making the Army look bad and there's nothing we can do about it.It's not all of them so don't think I'm making fun of the reserves, just some of them.

Well, I can't say I respect the soldier as a soldier. I can say I respect the soldier as a person, because to me most human lifes are valuable and humans deserve to be treated with dignity (I could state a few names where I believe such is not the case, people who I cannot consider human even if I try, but thats personal opinion, purely visceral).

But I don't feel anyone is fighting for my freedom. Soldiers fight to mantain the current system, this is democracy and capitalism, both political and economic systems that combined give out something very different to freedom. Max Weber said it: Society today is an iron prision.
