Unfortunatly, the poll max is now 10, so I had to combine most of the elemental Espers together and eliminate Shoat myself.
Darn Admins. (Not trying to flame them)
Too bad about the poll limit.
Anyway, tough call. The carbunkle group is tempting, but they also offer and teach some decent spells, especially for dealing with magic (reflect, zerk).
On the other hand, while the elemental group lacks power, and is replaced early on, they are the initial suite of combat spells.
Here is what breaks it for me- Shiva teaches osmose and rasp- the former of which allows you to, in certain circumstances, hunt without resting indefinitely, the second of which is a great alternative to direct combat, and is also a good way of dealing with mages.
On top of that, bismark, which has been lumped in with the others, is great early on for versitility, and later on because of the +2 strength per level.
Therefore, carbunkle gets by vote to go.

Yes, me, I like Bismark more, then the other two. Bismark can help you al lot in the burning house.
