Granted, I don't know how much this vaccine shortage will affect any of us, but it's still something to be concerned about. From the looks of the article, we've had this coming for a while.
I'll just have to hope I avoid the whole thing altogether, because when I come down with the flu, I come down with it hard...

I believe most people create their own problems out of nothing, and I believe this is a prime example of that. I was in our local medical center last week, and two fifty something's were getting their flu shots. This is hardly necessary, as they're both still prime enough for their bodies to fight the virus. But nooo, they could diiiiiie if they don't get the shoooot.
And the eighty year old woman who was in there too refused to get hers cause she felt she didn't need it. I was proud of her for not being... just.... I don't even know.
I think it's totally blown out of proportion, and hardly as newsworthy as the country is making it out to be.

People are just a bunch of wimps. They stupidly listen to everything the media says and then they blow it out of proportion just like SARs an everything.
I have never had a flu vaccine and I don't ever plan on getting one. They are not perfect and they don't guarrantee that you will be flu free.
They give you sick days for a reason!
People here stopped taking flu shots, 'cause they do more harm than good (side-effects and $hite, worse than the actual illness).

90% of people who die from it are over 65. so if ur not over 65 or under 3 u dont really need it.

If people are so worried about the flu, they should eat healthier, give their immune systems a better chance. But eh...we're a fat ass country that can't seem to realize that long term fixes are usually more stable than short term fixes.
It's nice if you get a flu shot and all, but if you're still eating unhealthy, you'll just impede your immune system.
The flu shot is almost completely useless. I could explain it to you but im lazy but will if someone needs me to.

Sure a couple points. The flu is a constantly changing virus(shape) so a vaccine for the flu is impossible. What they do is grab the shape that is most common that year or predicted for that year and give you that.(a vaccine is a dead or weakend form of the virus). So you can still get the flu.
Growing up I never got flu shots and I never got the flu. Now the Army makes me get flu shots and get get the flu every year. That should tell you something. People get the shots thinking the sickness is so horrible and they don't even realize that the shot might be what's making them sick. They're hurting themselves.

It's funny, they've been using recombinant technology in vaccines for 20-odd years now, but there's never been any outcry from anti-GE lobby groups. This could well be because the news media have never had sensationalist shock-headline articles like "OMG SECRET GE BACTERIA INJECTED INTO YOUR BABIES BY DOCTORS" or anything.
I think the only peeps that need the flu vaccine the most are old peeps, and youngins. I myself dont need it.

Though flu does kill more than SARs ever did it isn't that big of a threat overall. Most people need to stick it out. Flus are unpleasant, yes, but I've had all sorts of wonderful dreams that one usually doesn't get unless they consume hallucogens, something I refuse to do. Why deny my mind a chance to have the occasional unaided acid trip?
