Take away the two main parties in the US and who would you vote for? How aware are you of the other parties at all? I ask this because there are so many things about the US government system that I find to be odd on some level. The main one being that a president can only serve two terms regardless of how much better at the job he is than any other candidate, and the second thing being that you only really have two choices in America because everyone votes for one of the two major parties. Are all the other parties really that bad? Are those two parties really that good? If a smaller party had better policies, would you vote for them?

And finally, if every party was to be anonymous and have nothing but their policies listed in an election to over 250 million people who had never heard of any party in their life, do you think that the two existing parties would have the dominance? Would it be likely on any level that a smaller party would shoot to the top if this situation came about?

Most people vote for the larger parties because the smaller parties usually lack the funds to advertise. Americans are a very advertisement-driven culture. Ross Perot got the highest number of votes in around 100 years for an independant party because he was extremely rich and could afford his own ads.

If the two top ones were gone, I'd probably vote Green, or Libertarian.

I'd probably end up voting Libertarian myself.

I voted Libertarian. For the last two elections the two-party system has been a total joke anyway.

Does the US have a communist party?
Not that I'd want to vote for them, I'm just curious about whether it's been made legal again.

There is a communist party, yes, but they didn't have a candidate this time around.

Libertarian. I voted for some Libertarian candidates this time around. However, there is something mildly disturbing with the party platform. While I more or less endorse most of what they support (laissez-faire capitalism all the way) I still find myself wondering why they support it so... I don't know. It's difficult for me to explain.

I'd rather go to hell than vote for the Green party. =P

    Grin

    Nader was independent.

There's also the Nazi party, and I think there's a KKK party, but I don't remember what name they go by. There's also all sorts of hippie parties and other special groups parties.

The reason for not voting, other than me refusing to vote (and being Canadian), is that I think the misc parties have self-centered agendas which would hurt the country at large. The two 'big' parties have beliefs and goals that will help the most members of society, not just the blacks or the klansmen or promote communism. The *idea* of any american over the age of 40 is a noble idea, it's just not put into practice because not everybody can afford to run for president :D
