    Default Prop 68

Prop 68... I don't understand too much about it. It will supposedly allow "Vegas-sized casinos around parks and schools," which is a retarded thing to say because there are still zoning laws. The other side says Indians'll have to pay tax because of it.

I voted yes on 68. Why? Vegas-sized casinos all over California sounds awesome.

I think it's trying to say that because the governor could have the power to negotiate deals with Indian tribes, it provides them the opportunity to place all of these slot machines (not so much casinos, they aren't mentioned so far as I can see) in or near metropolitan areas.

Most of the generated money, which most fiscal analysts place somewhere around $1 billion per year, would go to local governments. Spiffy. The argument of opponents to this proposition is that, ultimately, it's a self-serving proposal that brings a lot of potentially dire consequences, as Calliope pointed out.

I voted "no" on all the propositions that would sink us farther into debt, except the one for stem cell research and the one for keeping certain emergency rooms open.

I voted "no" on the stem cell research one because it raises taxes and forces people who are morally against stem cell research to support it, while there are no restrictions on privately funded research. A ton of rich people are for it, including Bill Gates and the founder of eBay. If the two of them each donated half of the $3,000,000,000 a year that prop would require out of their approximate $40,000,000,000 each they wouldn't even notice the dent.

The idea that some bozo can just write off a 1.5 billion dollar cheque(ck) drives me bananas.

So keep us posted about this prop 68. I want to be able to see partying everywhere in Cali when I visit!

Yep. All the proposition does is make the taxpayers fund university research done on existing stem cells. No new stem cells can be used, gathering them from aborted fetus' is still illegal. It doesnt change anything, it just comes from our pocket if it passes.

We are creating a whole new industry with that, though. More jobs here in California.

Oh I understand. The prostitutes can go get knocked up, have abortions, and then give them to the universities for moneys.
