Thread: SpellCheck

    Default SpellCheck

Man I know I might sound self-centered or something but I think EOFF needs a spellcheck. I know I could just do it my self or something but we are using computers to post and computers are supposed to make things easier so I'm requesting that EOFF gets a spellcheck. I'd be willing to help out in any way I can.

Remember, the things in parenthesis are (not) important.

There are 3 types of people in this world. Those who can countand those who can't.

You could help by typing your posts in Word, spellchecking it there, then copy pasting it to the forums

Today I learned that hilarious isn't spelled "hillarious".

A spell-checker would have revealed this sooner!

We had one a while ago. But it got broked and nobody fixed it. I remember it pretty specifically, because about the time it broke was the same time that he went from Rirse to oh no it Rirse.

Spell checkers are nice, but often their utility does not justify the amount of extra webserver resources they use.

And ewe will disk cover that spell czech king does not fined awl errors.

Did that spell checker ever work? I don't remember it ever working as long as I've been here.

The button was just a decoy that never seemed to work and was eventually removed.

I know there are hacks out there that use an external DB on another server to check spelling. Although, I think they're subscription-based.

There is a good SQL driven spell checking module I found that is GPL and easily integratable into message forums...but, as with any spell checking hack, it puts a significant extra load on the web server.

Actually, in all honesty, this is sort of true. "Spell Check" is a nice feature but becoming a regular on a forum can actually have nice benefits without the option. If you actually try to improve your grammar and spelling on the boards and post regularly it most definately will eventually catch up with you and make you better at writing altogether. Good writing skills are a life-long skill and essential if you ever plan on going to college for almost any type of degree in most disciplines. Spell check shouldn't be a tool to allow the user to keep spelling poorly, it should be an extra check in an important document to make sure you haven't missed anything.

    Just my two cents.
