I can't say that I feel any pity for this 'man' in any way, but I do feel immense sorrow for his parents. What a horrible thing this is for them.
I also can't say that I am against the death sentence. It IS very rarely carried out, especially in California. I would agree with those of you who want him to just serve a life sentence in jail, that would be fine, except jails these days are cakewalks, more or less. At any rate, I hope some large cellmate of his works him over. Repeatedly.
